On the 4th of July, 2004, everything changed.

At the time, Vicky was just 23 years old — and a new mother to a 9-month-old baby girl. In the blink of an eye her life took a turn no one could have expected...

Vicky’s first time on a motorcycle. What was supposed to be a simple joy ride ended in tragedy when the driver lost control of the bike. The driver of the bike (Victor) tragically passed away in the accident. Miraculously, Vicky lived.

Her injuries were devastating. Her leg had to be amputated, and she spent the next three months in intensive care. But the road to recovery was far longer — three years in a wheelchair and in and out of hospital. Her dreams of becoming a fashion designer seemed impossibly far away. But Vicky wasn't the type to give up...

Before the accident, Vicky had completed her studies in fashion design at Tygerberg College, graduating in 2002. She had big dreams and bold plans — but the accident forced her to put them on hold.

With the support of family and friends, they launched a fundraiser to raise money for a prosthetic leg. Three years after the accident Vicky arrived at the doctor’s practice in Cape Town in a wheelchair… and walked out. A moment of quiet victory that echoed the strength she would carry for the rest of her life. This was the beginning of a new chapter.

By her side through it all was André — her fiancé at the time of the accident, now her husband. The two got married in 2014, and together they’ve weathered every storm life has sent their way.

Looking back, it can only be by the grace of God that Vicky lived to tell the tale. She was given a second chance — and she made it count.

Today, exactly 21 years later, she is not only a survivor — she is a businesswoman, a wife, and a proud mother of two. Her daughter is now 21, and her son is 13. She owns a successful company that manufactures sublimated apparel and promotional items. What started at home with just two employees has grown into a bustling factory employing 13 people.

Vicky’s journey is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest moments, purpose can be found, and greatness can still grow.

She went from learning how to live and walk again to building something lasting, meaningful, and entirely her own.

She didn’t just survive — she rose, stronger than ever.
