From the age of 15 Munchetty put up with horrendous symptoms: fainting, severe aching, exhaustion, vomiting and heavy bleeding. Her period would come every two and a half weeks: "I've never been suicidal but — definitely, because there were no answers — I just thought, I can't go through this in another two and a half weeks. It just needs to stop." Throughout her twenties and thirties she went to male and female doctors in London but was repeatedly told that her ordeal was normal and was never referred to a specialist.
In 2022, aged 47, after ten days of painful bleeding, she went to a private doctor.
She was diagnosed with adenomyosis, a condition where the lining of the womb starts growing into the muscle in the wall of the womb. It is thought to affect one in ten women in the UK.
