Here are three facts about the Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier) in Lesotho:

High-Altitude Specialist: In Lesotho, bearded vultures thrive in the rugged Maloti-Drakensberg mountains, soaring at elevations above 3,000 meters where they nest on remote cliffs.

Bone-Eating Diet: Unlike most vultures, they mainly eat bones. They drop large bones from great heights onto rocks to crack them open, feeding on the nutrient-rich marrow inside.

Conservation Concern: Lesotho hosts one of the last remaining breeding populations in southern Africa, but numbers are declining due to poisoning, habitat loss, and collisions with powerlines.

Lesotho's cold, clear rivers and mountain streams are home to a variety of freshwater fish, both indigenous and introduced species. Here are three types of fish found in Lesotho:

1. **Smallmouth Yellowfish:** This is a native and well-known species in Lesotho's rivers, particularly in the Orange and Caledon River systems. It is a popular sport fish among anglers, known for its powerful fight. They are characterized by their bronze to golden-yellow color and a relatively small mouth.

2. **Rainbow Trout:** While not native to Lesotho, rainbow trout were introduced and have thrived in the country's high-altitude, cold-water streams and reservoirs, such as Katse Dam. They have become a very popular game fish and a major draw for fly-fishing tourism in the Lesotho Highlands.

3. **Catfish (Barbel):** Several species of catfish, including the sharptooth catfish, are found in the lower-elevation rivers and dams of Lesotho. These are a staple food fish for many communities. They are distinguished by their smooth, scale-less skin and prominent barbels (whiskers) around their mouths, which they use to find food in muddy waters.
