Our School Liberia
LREC is a project of The DEAR Foundation in Switzerland. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we couldn't agree more.
LIBERIA RENAISSANCE EDUCATION COMPLEX
* #1 in Margibi on 2026 WASSCE, and top 50 schools nation-wide
* Not-for-profit private school
* Nursery to Grade 12
* TVET courses in Electricity, Auto-mechanics and Catering. The Liberia Renaissance Education Complex (LREC) was founded in January 2006 in the village of Duazon, about 20km east of Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia. We strive to be a model school, using progressive teaching methods to deliver a diverse and hands-on curriculum. We keep class sizes small, so that we can focus on individual student needs and ensure that every child who comes through our doors receives a top education. That's why we place a strong emphasis on community, encouraging parents to take an active role in their children's education, and teaching our students to pro-actively engage with society. "When we reconstruct a nation after the devastation of war or natural disasters, we should seek not merely to rebuild what once was, but to create something new that more truly approximates the very best possible." (Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia)
๐จ LEARNING BEYOND THE BLACKBOARD AT LREC! ๐๐ณโจ
Who says learning has to stay inside four walls? Watch our Grade 2 scholars bring their creativityโand natureโto life! ๐ง๐พ๐ฆ๐พ
Instead of just grabbing traditional crayons, our Grade 2 class took an outdoor field walk to gather real green leaves straight from our school compound. They brought them back into the classroom, used glue to frame their tree sketches with authentic nature textures, and finished their masterpieces with vibrant colors! ๐ฟ๐จ
At LREC, we believe in hands-on, experiential learning that sparks curiosity, engages young minds, and makes education fun and memorable every single day.
Look at those big smiles and incredible artistic skills! ๐ธ๐

At LREC, we believe active, sensory-rich learning experiences foster deeper comprehension and curiosity in young learners.
Our Grade 1 learners had an exciting, hands-on lesson exploring the five sensesโseeing, smelling, tasting, feeling, and touchingโusing a vibrant basket of fresh fruits. From guessing textures to tasting sweet flavors, see how interactive learning keeps our young scholars curious, joyous, and engaged!

A PROJECT OF THE DEAR FOUNDATION SWITZERLAND
At Liberia Renaissance Education Complex (LREC), every high school student graduates with two sets of qualifications: a full academic education, and practical, job-ready skills from our compulsory Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme.
Students choose from three courses: Auto-mechanics, Electricity, and Catering & Hospitality. Practical classes run alongside the complete academic curriculum, so students spend time under a car bonnet, wiring a circuit or running a kitchen in the same week they sit their Chemistry and Literature lessons.
The aim is simple: no single door should be the only one open. Some LREC graduates go on to university, some move straight into skilled work, and many do both, using a trade to support their studies. A qualification in a practical field gives every student in Liberia a foundation they can build on, whichever path they choose.
Which practical skill do you wish you had learned at school?

The computer laboratory at Liberia Renaissance Education Complex (LREC) has a new floor, and it was made possible entirely by our parents.
When the school administration presented the project at a Parent-Teacher Association meeting, LREC parents voted unanimously to fund the tiling of the laboratory in full. The work, covering floor preparation, tiling and finishing, is now complete, and it came in under the original estimate, with spare tiles and cement set aside for future maintenance.
A finished floor matters more in a computer lab than almost anywhere else in a school. Bare concrete constantly sheds dust, and dust is one of the leading causes of overheating and hardware failure in computers. A sealed, easy-to-clean surface helps protect the equipment and keeps the room comfortable for teaching and learning.
Thank you to the LREC PTA, and to Mr Jeremiah Gweh and his team for the workmanship.

๐ HAPPY WORLD TEACHERSโ DAY TO OUR LREC HEROES! ๐โจ
Today, as the world celebrates educators, we lift up an extra-special BIG THANK YOU to our amazing teachers right here at the Liberia Renaissance Education Complex (LREC)! ๐ฑ๐ท๐
Behind every thriving student in our school community are teachers who pour their time, patience, passion, and heart into guiding every step of the way.
At LREC, we celebrate teachers who do more than teach. You inspire dreams, nurture potential, and help shape the future of every learner.
Your dedication starts in our classrooms, but your impact reaches far beyond our gates into the future of Liberia. ๐โจ
For every single time youโve looked at an LREC student and said, โYou can do it,โ today we want to say the exact same thing to you: YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE, AND WE BELIEVE IN YOU! ๐๐ช
๐ฌ LREC FAMILY, SHOW SOME LOVE! Drop a โค๏ธ or leave a sweet message in the comments below for an LREC teacher who has made a lasting impact on your life! ๐๐โจ

DEARYOU BREAST CANCER AWARENESS AT LREC
A PROJECT OF THE DEAR FOUNDATION SWITZERLAND
As Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins, we are looking back on a September afternoon when close to 170 high school students at Liberia Renaissance Education Complex (LREC) came together to learn how, and why, to check properly.
Led by our school nurse, Meko Dolo-Tarwille, the session combined a live demonstration with open discussion. Using breast models donated by The DEAR Foundation Switzerland, four student volunteers stepped into the role of doctors, examining the models on stage and reporting their findings. All four found the large, hard mass. Only one detected the smaller second lump. That result was the lesson: knowing how to check matters as much as knowing to check at all.
LREC arranged devices and internet access so every student could download the DearYou app, which guides users through regular self-examination. After the DearYou instructional video, students raised questions about myths that circulate worldwide, including whether breast cancer can pass through breastfeeding and whether sleeping position affects risk. Clear, accurate breast health education is one of the simplest tools for early detection, in Liberia and everywhere.
Thank you to Nurse Meko, to DearYou App - Health starts with you, and to every student who spoke up and asked questions.
What is one health myth you grew up hearing that later turned out to be untrue?

How tall are you in building blocks?
Our youngest learners at Liberia Renaissance Education Complex (LREC) took turns lying on the carpet while classmates and teachers outlined them with blocks, then stepped back to compare shapes and sizes.
One simple game covers a whole set of early years skills: naming body parts, counting, comparing longer and shorter, the fine motor control needed to place each block, and the patience of waiting for a turn. Children learn measurement with their own bodies long before they ever pick up a ruler.
At LREC in Duazon, Liberia, play-based learning sits at the heart of our Early Childhood Education (ECE) classes, where students start from just two years of age. With teachers guiding alongside them, they build the confidence and curiosity that carry them into the rest of their education.
What game from your earliest school days do you still remember?
