Á aðventunni og um jólin var upp undir 10 stiga hiti og stillt veður flesta daga. Nú er hvít jörð og ögn jólalegra.

During Advent and around Christmas it was close to 10°C and calm weather most days. Now the ground is white and it feels a bit more Christmassy.

Behind the scenes, before we even think about setting the breakfast table, we need a strong cup of coffee. Some of us chat about world politics, while others are just thinking about how many birds to chase today.

We always try to have something homebaked on our breakfast table and we often get the question what cake this is. The Icelandic name for it is "Hjónabandssæla" which can be translated as "Happy marriage"! Baking a cake for your beloved one is a good way of showing care.

The main ingredients are wheat, oats and jam from the rhubarb in our garden.
