Your waste may reach the recycler. But what if the numbers don’t? ⚠️

C&D waste compliance doesn’t end when the waste moves from one point to another.

The producer, intermediate waste storage facility and recycler each have a role in the reporting chain. Their data needs to tell the same story. 📋

If the reported quantities don’t match, the figure considered for the producer’s EPR target fulfilment can be affected.

That’s why maintaining proper waste movement records, quantity records and supporting documentation is just as important as the physical handling of the waste.

In compliance, the waste trail and the data trail need to stay aligned. 📌

Want to know what data you need to maintain for C&D EPR compliance?

⚠️Building the project first and planning waste management later? That can be too late. ⚠️

The Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 place certain responsibilities on the planning and construction side of a project.

For example, for new Bulk Waste Generators, Rule 6(d) requires adequate-capacity wet-waste processing arrangements.

The Rules also address solid waste generated during construction of new construction units.

That means waste management shouldn’t be treated as a finishing touch after the building is complete.

Space. Capacity. Processing arrangements.
These can need consideration while the project is still being planned. 📐

Environmental compliance isn’t something you simply add at the end.

Got your authorization? That doesn’t mean compliance is over. ⚠️

For a waste-processing facility, authorization is an important requirement, but the operator’s responsibilities continue after authorization.

The Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 require the facility to operate according to prescribed standards and applicable guidelines in a safe and environmentally sound manner.

And if the required responsibilities under the Rules are not complied with, Environmental Compensation may be levied, with the concerned State Pollution Control Board or Pollution Control Committee having the relevant role under Rule 17. ⚖️

So remember:
Authorization gives you the basis to operate.

Ongoing compliance keeps that operation compliant.

You handed over the waste. But did you hand over the legal responsibility? ⚠♻
This is where many organisations may overlook an important part of waste compliance.
Simply handing waste to a collector does not automatically make the compliance trail
disappear.
Ask yourself:
🔎 Are you legally authorised to handle this specific waste category?
🚛 Is the entire transport chain compliant?
📍 What is the exact documented final destination?
📄 Can you prove the handover and its final disposal or processing?
Because if waste is handed over to an unauthorised collector or ultimately dumped illegally,
the organisation that generated the waste may still face serious compliance consequences.
That means waste management isn’t simply:
Generate → Hand over → Done.
It’s about having a compliant, traceable chain from generation to final destination.
🔗
Don’t just ask,
Ask,
“Who collected our waste?”
“Can we prove where it went?”
If you want to assess whether your waste-handling trail is actually compliance-ready, comment
“TRACE” and connect with Axis Consultants.

Same amount of waste. Does that mean the same compliance? Not necessarily. ♻️
Two commercial establishments can generate the same quantity of solid waste, but their waste composition, applicable requirements and management approach can be different.
Under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, waste has to be segregated at source into different streams, including wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste.
So, looking only at how much waste your organisation generates is not enough. ⚠️
The first compliance question is:
What requirements actually apply to your organisation?
That is where environmental compliance moves from a generic checklist to a business-specific responsibility.

Onam celebrates abundance. Don’t let it leave behind an abundance of waste.

Prosperity means little if it costs the planet that gives it to us.

This Thiruvonam, choose:
→ Segregation at source (wet/dry)
→ Zero single-use plastics
→ Recyclables to authorized recyclers only
→ Eco-friendly decor over disposables

And a reminder for businesses celebrating big this season: EPR and SWM compliance obligations don’t pause for festivals. If your waste management framework needs a compliance check, talk to us.

Happy Onam, from Axis Consultants.
