I have two class dates in Clonakilty for iron painting with melted beeswax! This type of encaustic painting is playful and accessible - complete beginners welcome 🥰 It’s a really fun and experimental way of painting that gets you into the creative flow.

DM me or follow the link in my bio to book through my website. Only 3 spaces left for tomorrow’s class!

Hello October! Usually when I am quiet on social media it means I am busy in real life 🤪 I take small snippets of time to paint or craft or work on something creative to help keep me sane amidst the chaos that life as a mother of four brings.

With the Clonakilty Artists Together (C.A.T) we are so lucky to have a fantastic space in the temporary new Gallery Asna to paint in every Thursday, share a cuppa and chat about exhibitions and projects that we are working on. If it weren’t for this group, I don’t know if I would manage to set time aside for my encaustic wax painting to actually finish pieces! Here are a few pieces I completed recently during our Thursday sessions- the first one is pigmented beeswax on a tiny wood panel which I had started ages ago and got “stuck” on. I’m delighted that I came back to it today and changed up the colour palette to finish it off. Very pleased with it now! I’ve done some mini dreamscapes on paper too, in limited colour palettes. Restricting the number of colours in a piece really helps me to focus and get into the flow, thinking carefully about the composition and the contrast between light and dark.

Swipe to the last photo to see a different type of piece that I am working on! This is an old project that used to be an automata (a moving toy) but was never in a finished and stable state, so I am giving it a new life as a layered scene in a box frame.

I finally completed a set of 3 wax paintings that sit well together! They are especially for a triptych frame that I want to fill.

Some days I reach for a simpler palette, limited to two colours. Today I used metallic silver and indigo, which looks black when it’s in the block form.

I challenged myself to create a mini landscape using a single colour and I think it turned out lovely!

Delighted to have a mini duo exhibition with fellow local artist Will C. Dahm in cosy WAZZY WOO for the month of September. Grab a delicious Stone Valley Coffee Roasters coffee with a plant-based cake and sit down to admire the art on the walls in one of Clonakilty’s most loved cafés.

Will C. Dahm paints beautiful scenes from nature in oils, echoing the landscape around us. Encaustic wax dreamscapes by Natalie Dwyer | Encaustic Artist, Designer & Miniaturist spark the imagination and evoke a sense of awe and wonder. We are both members of Gallery Asna and paint alongside one another in the Clonakilty Artists Together (C.A.T) group which meets every Thursday in the new temporary arts centre space at 8 Kent Street, Clonakilty.

Each of the original art pieces are for sale and available to purchase directly from the artists - prices and details are beside each painting. If you aren’t in Clonakilty and one of our pieces has caught your eye, do get in touch and we will arrange to get the painting to you!

Huge thanks to Liam and the team at WAZZY WOO for hosting us on the walls!

The kids are back at school and everything is FULL ON 🤪 Lots happening for me at the moment and I’ll update properly here when I can organise myself a bit better.
At least I sat down to do some encaustic painting in the Clonakilty Artists Together (C.A.T) group today! Lovely to be back with this creative gang. Feeling a bit rusty with my painting but this didn’t turn out too badly at all ☺️

I am delighted to share that my encaustic beeswax miniature painting “Tairseach (Threshold) III: Stone Circle” sold at the wonderful West Cork Creates exhibition “Listen to the Land Speak” at Cnoc Bui in Union Hall recently.

This series of small paintings represents the thresholds where I imagine our ancestors believed we could access the Otherworld. My paintings act as tiny portals to bring the viewer to magical places, often echoing my West Cork surroundings. Stone circles hold great power and mystery. This painting is recognisably based on Drombeg Stone Circle, not far from Union Hall.

Each of the four works in this series was painted using a modern form of encaustic art, using beeswax, pigments and damar resin (from trees) melted onto a small iron and heated stylus, then painted onto tiny wooden panels which I cut out of the leftover waste materials from a local business and finished by hand.

I frame all my paintings myself, carefully measuring and ordering the wood frames and mounts from local framers Strand Framing, who custom-make these box frames for me. The framing is an extension of my creative process and I take my time choosing colours and assembling the finished paintings.

The other pieces in this series, “Bile: Sacred Tree”, “Threshold Lake” and “Inis Subha: Island of Joy” are available to purchase directly from me, for a limited time before they go into a gallery. Each one is €125 and shipping can be arranged.
