Another great walk to try this Autumn, while also brushing up in some history! Castle Saunderson is set in the heart of the Geopark. The story of Castle Saunderson is marked by fire and blood, conquest and division, and finally, peace, reconciliation and multiculturalism! In many ways, the story of Castle Saunderson is reflective of the story of the island of Ireland and its history.

💚 What if a day out could help someone through a difficult chapter?
This year, Balance Mental Health & Awareness Event at Cavan Adventure Centre is about coming together, getting active, spending time outdoors and supporting a cause that matters.
In partnership with Cuan Cancer Support Centre Cavan, Balance will raise funds to support the vital work they do for people and families affected by cancer.
🌿 What’s happening on the day?
🛶 Paddle for a Purpose
🧭 Family Orienteering
🧘 Yoga
🔔 Sound Baths
🔥 Sauna
🎶 Ramblin Jacks at 3pm
There’s something rather powerful about bringing movement, nature, music and good people together. And perhaps that is the heart of Balance this year: when someone is carrying something heavy, we may not be able to carry it for them, but we can make sure they don’t carry it alone. 💚
Every euro raised through Balance will go towards supporting Cuan Cancer Support Centre Cavan.
Who would you bring along for a day of movement, connection and community? Tag them below 👇

🍽️ Is Cavan one of Ireland’s best-kept food secrets?
We think it might be. 👀
Cavan has plenty to tempt hungry travellers, from cosy gastro pubs to polished dining rooms and estate dining surrounded by beautiful countryside. And today, we’re raising a fork to three places worth putting on your food map. 🍴
🥘 Murphy’s Gastro Pub, Butlersbridge
A great excuse to take the scenic route through Cavan, with a proper gastro pub experience in the heart of Butlersbridge.
🍽️ People’s Restaurant, Cavan Town
Right in the centre of Cavan Town, People’s is a favourite for sitting down, slowing the pace and enjoying a good meal.
🌿 Farnham Estate
Make a meal part of the escape at Farnham Estate, where great food comes with an estate setting and plenty of Cavan countryside to enjoy afterwards.
And this is just a small taste of what’s on the menu across the county. Cavan, part of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, has plenty of local spots waiting to be discovered.

🥾 What stories are still waiting to be discovered on the slopes of Cuilcagh?
There are walks where you count the kilometres. Then there are walks where you start noticing the stories in the landscape.
The Seán Eamon Ruairí Trail begins at St. Pat’s Hall (Glan Hall) in Glangevlin, leading through a preserved rural landscape of abandoned farmsteads, mountain streams and upland views towards Cuilcagh Mountain.
This moderate 2.5-hour trail offers a fascinating glimpse into the life and landscape of Seán Eamon Ruairí, the last native Irish speaker in West Cavan. 🍃
Along the way, you’ll pass:
🏡 Abandoned farmsteads and the former homestead of Seán Eamon Ruairí
💧 A mountain stream and an ancient sweathouse, an early form of sauna
🧶 The historic Weavers House
🪨 A sculpture memorial to Seán Eamon Ruairí
🌄 Picnic benches with wonderful views across the surrounding landscape
Terrain: Minor road and trackway
Grade: Moderate
Time: Approx. 2.5 hours
📍 Start & finish: St. Pat’s Hall, Glangevlin, with parking available
💭 Could you imagine walking through this landscape knowing that it was once home to the last native Irish speaker in West Cavan? Have you walked the Seán Eamon Ruairí Trail? Tell us what stood out to you, or tag someone who should add it to their Cavan walking list. 👇
