GYSBI’s Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Kassam, joined regional business leaders on stage last week for the opening-day plenary of the fourth International Business Conference (IBC 2026) in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Speaking alongside Artur Nunes da Silva, General Manager and Suriname Country Chair of TotalEnergies EP Suriname B.V., and Bryan Renten, CEO of the Fernandes Group, Oliver shared perspectives on how the region’s growing energy sector can stimulate wider economic activity and support sustainable industrial growth.
The discussion, “From Energy to Industry,” explored investment opportunities, barriers to growth and how Guyana and Suriname can translate energy development into long-term economic value.
Hosted by the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce, with support from the Suriname Investment and Trade Agency, IBC 2026 brought participants together from October 13–15 at the Assuria Event Center.
Meet our August Employee of the Month, Gangadai Thakoordial, a dedicated team member who continues to demonstrate ownership and continuous improvement in action. Through her hands-on leadership, she has helped to enhance a critical process in our finance department while fostering greater teamwork and capacity building.
Her efforts have also improved overall work efficiency while supporting her colleagues every step of the way. Her peers recognise her drive and commitment, and Gangadai deserves this award.
