Our sensory supports are now LIVE at Choices 💙

Healthcare environments can be difficult for lots of different reasons — bright lights, unfamiliar sounds, uncertainty, sensory overload, communication needs or simply feeling overwhelmed in a clinical space.

So we’ve been making some practical changes.

Our clinic now has a range of sensory, communication and environmental supports available, including ear defenders, earplugs, sunglasses, fidgets, communication cards, yes/no paddles, whiteboards, softer lighting, ambient lamps and calming sounds.

These supports are there for neurodivergent people, people with learning disabilities, and anyone else who might find them helpful.

You do not need a diagnosis. And you do not need permission to use them.

This work has been shaped by feedback about the barriers people can experience when accessing healthcare, and we’re incredibly grateful to the Co-op Community Fund for helping us turn some of that feedback into practical change.

And importantly, this isn’t finished.

We’ll be asking people who use the supports what helped, what didn’t, and what else we could do to make accessing Choices easier.

Because accessibility shouldn’t be a one-off project.

It should be something we keep listening to, learning from and improving. 💙

📄 The first annual report for the Guernsey and Alderney Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategy has been published.

It highlights progress made during 2025, including improvements to services, education and partnership working, while setting out priorities for future work.

Not all STI’s cause symptoms so it is always best to get tested!
It is quick and easy and free for anyone under 21.

Calling all Guernsey professionals in hairdressing, beauty therapy, tattoo artistry, podiatry, and related fields:
In your line of work, you have a unique opportunity to notice skin changes that clients may not be aware of. Early identification can encourage people to seek medical advice sooner and get unusual skin changes checked by a doctor.
Public Health Services and SKcin are offering 10 free places on an online training course, specially created to help you:
1. Recognise potential early signs of skin cancer
2. Confidently start a conversation with clients about concerning skin changes

In addition to the 10 free places, the training will be available at a reduced fee for two weeks so that nobody misses the chance to upskill themselves or their staff.
