Meet the latest addition to the matm marketing teamโ€ฆ Lottie Lu ๐Ÿพ

Sheโ€™s a beautiful black cocker spaniel and, so far, she has taken her new role very seriously.

๐Ÿถ Brand presence: impossible to ignore
๐Ÿ— Lead generation: mainly focused on snacks
๐Ÿ‘€ Engagement strategy: intense eye contact until cuddles are received
๐Ÿฅช Campaign monitoring: especially during lunch breaks
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Client feedback style: stubborn, vocal and not always open to compromise
๐Ÿพ Team morale: instantly improved

She loves lying around the office, begging for food and making sure no one forgets she is available for attention at all times.

She may be stubborn, slightly argumentative and fully convinced she is now Head of Happiness, but we think sheโ€™s fitted into the marketing team perfectly.

Welcome to the team, Lottie Lu. We are already wrapped around your little paws.

Think your office needs a Lottie Lu? Tag your boss and make your case!

SEO vs GEO: whatโ€™s the difference? ๐Ÿ”

SEO helps your website appear in search engines like Google.
GEO, or Generative Engine Optimisation, builds on many of the same foundations.
It helps AI platforms understand your business, your services and your expertise, so they can reference you more accurately in AI-generated answers.

The goal is similar: make your business easier to find.

The way people search is changing, though. Customers are no longer just typing keywords into Google. They are asking AI tools more specific questions and expecting clear, trusted answers.

That means your website content needs to do more than rank. It needs to explain who you are, what you do, where you operate and why your business is credible.

At matm, we do the hard work for you, creating and optimising website content that supports both traditional SEO and the growing role of GEO.

Want your website to work harder in search and AI results? ๐Ÿ’ก

Is your WordPress website becoming a hidden security risk? ๐Ÿ‘พ

When updates are delayed, outdated WordPress software, plugins and themes can leave your site exposed to known vulnerabilities. Even if your website looks fine, automated bots may still be scanning for weaknesses.

Delaying updates can lead to malicious redirects, SEO spam, broken forms, search engine warnings and lost customer trust.

At matm, we help businesses keep their websites secure, supported and up to date with a sensible maintenance process.

Read the full blog to find out why WordPress updates matter, and what you can do to protect your website: https://matm.co.uk/security-matters/why-delaying-wordpress-updates-puts-your-website-at-risk/

Urgent WordPress security update: have you checked your website? ๐ŸŒ

A critical vulnerability known as wp2shell has been identified in WordPress core, meaning it is not caused by a plugin or theme.

If your website is running an affected version, it could be at risk, even if everything appears to be working normally.

Website owners should check their WordPress version, confirm the latest security update has installed, and review their site for anything suspicious.

Read the full blog to find out what wp2shell is, which versions are affected and what action you should take: https://matm.co.uk/security-matters/critical-wp2shell-wordpress-vulnerability-update-your-website-now/

Have your Google rankings dropped recently? ๐Ÿ“‰

Googleโ€™s May 2026 core update is the most likely reason. As we explain in our latest blog, a drop after a core update does not usually mean something is broken on your website or that you have been penalised. More often, it means Google has re-evaluated which pages best deserve to rank for a search.

The key is not to panic or start making sudden changes mid-wobble. Instead, look at the pattern, review which pages and keywords moved, and assess whether your content is genuinely the most useful result for that search.

In the blog, we break down:
โ€ข what the May 2026 core update was
โ€ข why rankings may have shifted
โ€ข what businesses should do next
โ€ข why patience and proper tracking matter

A brilliant media shoot with leading powered access hire company Summit Platforms.

Meg and Ant visited Summit Platformsโ€™ Bristol depot to capture fresh images, video and drone footage.

The shoot captured Summitโ€™s excellent facilities, impressive fleet and fantastic team, giving us plenty of new content to help promote the business.

The team even ascended above 50metres to grab some footage, which certainly made it a memorable one.

A big thank you to the team at Summit Platforms for having us on site and helping make the day such a success.

Keep an eye out for the new Summit Platforms shots later this year ๐Ÿ“ธ

WordPress security is not something to leave on the to-do list. ๐Ÿ”

Our latest article looks at Sucuri Security's April 2026 WordPress vulnerability roundup and why it matters for business website owners. With widely used plugins affected, the risks of falling behind on updates can quickly become more than just a technical headache.

A vulnerable website can lead to lost enquiries, damaged trust, downtime, search visibility issues, and even exposure of sensitive data. That is why regular maintenance, safe update processes, backups, monitoring, and layered protection all matter.

In the article, we cover:
๐Ÿ‘พ What kinds of vulnerabilities were highlighted
๐Ÿ’ผ Why they matter for businesses
๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ป What site owners should do next
โš ๏ธ Warning signs that a site may already be compromised

If your WordPress website is critical to your business, security updates should be handled as part of a consistent maintenance process, not as an afterthought.

A productive day spent with Catalyst!

Megan and Andy enjoyed a lovely stop with Michelle at the Albion Farm Shop & Cafe, Saddleworth (well worth a visit), before heading into a thorough marketing planning meeting with Michelle and Brad at Catalyst Services UK.

We left with plenty of ideas, clear direction, and exciting plans ahead.

A big thank you to Michelle and Brad for such a productive and insightful meeting, and to Michelle for the coffee and cake. ๐Ÿฐ
