Addressing economic, social, environmental and cultural issues of Stranraer

Stranraer Development Trust has been formed to engage in activities which benefit and support the community of Stranraer by attracting funding to resource local projects and activities and administer those funds in accordance with the constitution of the Trust. The Trust will take forward projects that will increase opportunities, improve the attractiveness of the town, attract more visitors and revive the lost sense of pride in the town and what it has to offer. The Trust invites residents within the catchment areas of Stranraer and Ochtrelure and Belmont Community Councils to join as members of the Trust. Membership is free and will allow attendance and voting at the Annual General Meeting.

Stranraer Visitor Attraction - Public Engagement Event 09/09/2026

A reminder that you are warmly invited to a key information event about the proposal to build a major national visitor attraction in Stranraer Thursday, 10 September 2026, 7.00–8.00pm, Oyster Festival, Chef's Demo Marquee, Stranraer Waterfront

Held on the eve of this year's Stranraer Oyster Festival, the event will publicly unveil proposals for an ambitious new national visitor attraction for Stranraer and explain how it could help transform the visitor economy of the South of Scotland.
• Book your place here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/stranraer-visitor-attraction-public-engagement-event-tickets-1994683097841?aff=oddtdtcreator
• Learn more about the proposal
• Read blog about the idea: Stranraer - Beyond the Horizon
Developed in partnership with local groups, the proposal is to create a nationally significant visitor attraction telling the story of Scottish emigration and the global Scottish diaspora. The ambition is to attract more high-spending international visitors—particularly from North America—to the South of Scotland, supporting local businesses, creating quality year-round jobs and strengthening our regional economy.
The project remains at an early stage, but important progress has already been made. An independent pre-feasibility study has concluded, and the vision has received the backing of Visit Scotland, the National Trust for Scotland, Sam Heughan, SOSE, and a growing number of partners and supporters.

This event marks the next important step in the journey. We will share the thinking behind the proposal, explain the work undertaken so far, answer questions and, above all, listen to the views of local businesses, community organisations and residents.

Hope to see you there,
