Incredible energy at the Skanwear "Electrical Safety & Operational Reliability in Data Centres" Conference 2026!
It was fantastic connecting with so many industry friends, exchanging insights, and diving into discussions throughout the day. A huge thank-you to everyone who stopped by our booth, attended our speaking session, and stayed for the Q&A.
As critical infrastructure demands higher uptime and smarter maintenance strategies, events like ESOR remind us just how important cross-industry collaboration truly is.
If we didn’t get a chance to connect during the event, let’s pick up the conversation here!
High Frequency CTs (HFCTs) used for partial discharge detection in HV cables are passive components with very stable performance characteristics.
In this test, a new CT48 is tested alongside one that has been permanently installed as part of a substation monitor in London for 12 years. It can be seen that the performances of the two sensors are almost identical.
This classic HFCT was launched by in 2004 and we expect to see similarly consistent performance in our oldest sensors, now 20 years old!

As part of our integration into ABB, we’re continuing to review and align our safe working practices to ensure we maintain high standards across our activities.
Last week, our Field Service Engineers joined Nathan Simpson, QHSE Specialist at ABB, along with the ELSE UK Electrical Safety Champion, on site during the installation of an online Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring system at a major UK airport.
The visit provided an opportunity to see our work in practice, discuss site-specific risks and controls, and share knowledge and good practice between our teams.
These opportunities to work together in the field are an important part of the integration process, helping us align our approach to electrical safety while continuing to ensure our teams have the right processes and controls in place to work safely.
Thank you to the ABB team for taking the time to visit and for the constructive discussions throughout the day.

It was a pleasure to welcome Stuart Thompson, President of ABB Electrification Service, and Lee Todd, VP, to IPEC last week.
The visit was a great opportunity to share more about our team, our expertise and the work taking place across IPEC as we continue our integration into ABB.
From our technology and innovation to our customer-focused approach, it was fantastic to showcase the knowledge and passion within our team and discuss the opportunities ahead as part of ABB.
With continued growth, the integration of our internal systems and plans for our new location, there is plenty happening at IPEC as we look towards the next stage of our journey.
A big thank you to Stuart and Lee for taking the time to visit us, and to our team for sharing their work and helping make the visit a success.
Dr Jing Zhao demonstrating the use of our PD Detector Pro to detect partial discharge in MV switchgear using VDS (Voltage Detector System) ports. This can similarly be done on a VPIS (Voltage Presence Indicator System).
The easily accessible sockets make on-line testing quick and easy, without requiring an outage.
