This one might divide opinion, but it’s a conversation I think we need to be having.

Firstly, this isn’t an anti-Mounjaro, anti-Wegovy or anti-weight-loss medication post šŸ’‰

For the right person, medically assessed and appropriately prescribed, these medications can be life-changing.

What concerns me is how quickly they’re becoming normalised for people who simply want to lose a few pounds — including people who are active, train regularly and may already be at a healthy weight.

I’m also seeing more coaches and influencers taking the approach of:

ā€œIf you’re going to take them, make sure you lift weights and eat plenty of protein.ā€

That’s not necessarily bad advice. But surely we’re missing an important question…

Do you actually need the medication in the first place?

If someone wants to lose 5–10lb, shouldn’t we be talking about training, nutrition, calories, movement, sleep and habits before accepting that prescription medication is simply the next step?

I also think the fitness industry needs to be careful that this doesn’t become another commercial opportunity.

There’s a big difference between supporting someone who has been medically prescribed a drug and normalising its use, then selling coaching to help manage the training and nutrition around it.

Everyone has the freedom to make their own choices about their body. This isn’t about judging anyone taking these medications.

It’s about making sure those choices are based on good information and appropriate medical advice — not social-media hype, commercial opportunity or simply the desire for a quicker result.

And if you’re already fit, healthy and at a healthy weight but still feel you need to lose another 5 or 10lb, maybe there’s another question worth asking:

Why do I feel I need to?

Well… that’s my thoughts!

We’ve included some of the current research and UK guidance behind our thoughts on the final slide.

We love sharing the positive impact weight lifting and structured training can have…

Anik Bin Ashraf joined us at over 9 months ago for one of our 6 week programmes before becoming a member…

The programme convinced him, we might know what we are doing! 😃

When joining, Anik had been suffering with injury and couldn’t get back to doing what he enjoyed, which was running.

Not only is he enjoying running again, he’s found a new understanding around strength work and it’s importance to his running.

To see him complete the Perth 10k in sub 50, in his 50’s was great for us, even better for him šŸ™ŒšŸ»

We know so many people are wanting to be healthier.

We just wish we could help more people make the change and that’s why structured programming, coaching and the right environment matter so much.

Well done Anik šŸ™ŒšŸ» great to see your progress and now just to keep that up!

Ps. He absolutely nailed this in one take, but we shouldn’t maybe be surprised with his decorated military service 🫔

Anik came up to me the other week out the blue, prior to a group session just to let me know how great the club has been for him…

As always when you get compliments you aren’t necessarily expecting, it catches you out…

We put so much work in to providing structured training, accountability, coaching and focus on to individuals that the result and feedback shouldn’t be surprising…

But it always is 😃 and let’s be honest it’s always nice to hear…

Yes, it’s great for us as coaches but importantly it’s great to hear a member that has trusted the process and is now seeing the results.

Too often people are looking for quick fixes, but the quickest fix is the one that doesn’t last. And that’s why we don’t do fads, even if it would be a quick marketing win…

From ongoing injuries to being back doing what he originally loved… the difference? Weight training, building strength, mobility and allowing the tissues to adapt to handle running again.

Thanks for sharing your success Anik ā¤ļø it makes doing what we do all the more worthwhile šŸ™ŒšŸ»

More from Anik soon…

Today some of the team met up and we got in some CPD around coaching biomechanics šŸ‘Øā€šŸŽ“

The main idea was to share ideas on how to coach more effectively, choose better cues, understand how each client moves differently, make better exercise selection based on the individual and ultimately how to progress training appropriately šŸ™ŒšŸ»

Our focus as a club is to provide you with all the tools to succeed, but as coaches we also have to learn within our group formats how best to provide the detail that matters most to each individual.

It might be one programme but that could still be 3 different people doing different exercises specific to their needs šŸ’ŖšŸ»

As they say… more than a gym!

I’m not sure where this post is going but it’s a honest one…

In 2015 we opened. Eager to make a difference to peoples life’s.

As a personal trainer I could see the impact I had on people. Whether it was confidence from building strength, fitness or losing a few lbs and how that made them feel.

The trouble was it felt like a drop in the ocean…

How can I help more people, how can I scale this without losing the personal touch and still deliver the message.

The scaling was Club 300. Capped to 300 people to maintain the personal touch. Coaches committed to avoiding fads and looking to support people the right way.

The message became our 3 pillars… Mindset Movement Macros.

I genuinely thought we could help everyone… they just have to commit to the process.

Over the years it became clear, we can’t. People have to be ready to change and if they aren’t you just have to be ready to support them when they are.

At first that felt like failure. In the end it was actually personal development. Instead of taking it personally, it gave me better understanding of when to push and when to pull back.

Everything we do at Club 300 is based around just that. Meeting people where they are, providing structure, support and accountability so they don’t have to think too much about it.

Turn up, trust the process and be ready to open up and ask the right questions… we won’t feed you fads or ā€˜I heard this could be good’!

We provide evidence based information around training and nutrition and sometimes we don’t shout enough about it… partly I think that’s because we are up against a mountain of sexy fads. The truth is the simple stuff isn’t sexy.

However, we need to stay true to our values.

In 2026 we are still delivering the same message continuing the same original goal (slightly tweaked) … help as many people as possible, who are ready to make a change šŸ™ŒšŸ»

(The last image is just to show a younger me before 11 years of inflation and rising costs!) šŸ˜…

FYI - if you want to get started you have about 24 hours to join our 6 week programme!

Photos from Club 300 Perth's post 24/08/2026

Onboarding Friday for a Monday start šŸ’ŖšŸ»

Fed up guessing…

Join us for our 6 Week Post Summer Reboot programme and we will help you overcome some common hurdles…

What we will cover šŸ‘‡šŸ»

Specific calories and macronutrient targets.
18 Small Group Sessions over 6 weeks.
Recovery ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹ protocols around steps, sleep and hydration.
Weekly check-in - here we ensure your next week is better than the last.

What you’ll feel šŸ‘‡šŸ»

More energy - always helpful, because of you are over 30 and haven’t focused on yourself for a whilst this is probably more important than anything else.

Improved fitness - a time comes when you truly want to feel like you did in your twenties. Starting is the problem and although we wouldn’t encourage you to compare to your old-self it is time to set a marker for your new self!

Improved strength - strength isn’t just about what you can lift on the bar now. It’s protecting your body for when you age. I think we would all prefer our independence as we grow older. You can start at any age, but the earlier the better.

Sustainability - no fads here and no quick fixes. We work on building sustainable results in a world full of quick fixes and fast rebounds… commit to learning or this probably isn’t for you.

We will support you over the 6 weeks to show you how simple health and fitness can be…

We aren’t saying it’s easy, change isn’t, but once you get the basics right it’s far easier than yo-yo dieting with frustration for years.

So, if you want to know what Mindset, Movement, Macros is all about and how others have done it…

Message ā€˜PSR’ now and let’s chat…
