🌷 UPDATE ON DESIGNERS GUILD 🌷
Following our announcement earlier this week about the demise of Designers Guild I was so relieved to open an email this morning from another one of our well loved British Design Houses with an update. The Sanderson Design Group have signed a deal to supply the Designers Guild fabrics and wallpapers for the next 10 years!! 🙌 It is still a tragedy that the company has gone. And our thoughts are with their employees have lost their jobs. But the brand will survive, and we can still enjoy their designs for years to come.
We will be keeping the books on the shelves, and hoping for plenty of opportunities to furnish your homes with Designers Guild in the future.
At Atticus we stock a huge selection of pattern books by many brands including the Sanderson Design Group. They own Harlequin, Morris and Co, Zoffany, Sanderson and now Designers Guild. You will find one of the most comprehensive selections of fabric and wallpaper from all these brands and more here in our studio in Peebles. Get in touch to make an appointment in our studio.
It’s a very sad week for the British Interior Design world. I am very disappointed to say that Designers Guild has ceased trading. Designers Guild has been one of my favourite British brands of furnishing fabrics since I began my career in the nineties. My own home is furnished with Designers Guild, and I have had the pleasure over the years of introducing the joy, colour, and freedom into many of your homes too. No other brand does tumbled linen like DG. Their painterly florals, vivid velvets, magical murals were just a few of their specialities. In recent years their plains, their rugged linens and their semi-sheers have been my “go to” and are just as delicious as the florals that DG were known for. I will miss this brand so much. I wish I had ordered a few metres of all my favourites, but it’s too late for that now. My condolences go to Tricia, Simon and all the staff at Designers Guild, including Andrew who came to visit us here in Peebles twice per year to show us the new, and always irresistible collections. The Guild empire have left a legacy which we will enjoy forever I’m sure. But Jo and I will be clearing the beautiful aqua blue books from our shelves tomorrow, with a very heavy heart. I leave you with this slideshow of some of our Designers Guild delights, in your homes and our studio. Thank you to all my customers who have given me the pleasure of working with Designers Guild. Lynsay x

Friday night feeling… proud of all we have achieved here at Atticus this week and this month, since returning full time to work. From curtain fittings, furniture deliveries, to studio consultations and shop stuff. Scrolling through my camera roll reminds me how varied my days are. Such a lovely atmosphere in the shop today, an early autumnal day in our beautiful town, with cheerful weekend people arriving and locals doing their weekend prep. It’s the bustle we love. Jo has the shop looking spic-n-span and super luscious, and she will be there to welcome you tomorrow. Happy weekend! And thank you so much for keeping me busy whilst bearing with me through the tough time. Lynsay x

We have some gorgeous new stacking jewellery in just in time for the weekend! 💃🏻 I pour over each and every item I bring into this shop. No stock is purchased on a whim or to make up the numbers. There is a reason for dealing with each supplier. My reason for buying from this supplier of 18k gold plated and gem stone jewellery is that she is a lovely young English woman who started this small business recently, after returning home from her travels across the globe. Her name is Kerry, and all her designs are inspired by places she has visited and the local arts and crafts in these areas. I have met Kerry and heard some of her travel stories personally. Supporting another small British business is a very good reason to purchase stock, and when it’s as gorgeous and carefully thought out as this I am proud to display it, shout about it and sell it. My teenaged daughter LOVES this range, and it suits us all, across the age spectrum! “Stacking Jewellery for the Modern Bohemian”! In the photos we have new design with rubies and garnets, some blue Topaz, and we also have some Peridot, Sapphire, emerald etc in store. Our all gold pendants are ever popular and the zodiac pendants make a fabulous gift. Prices start at £36 for a bracelet, and £38 for a zodiac pendant. Atticus will be open tomorrow from 10am until 4pm so dash down if you see something you fancy 💃🏻 💋 😊

All appointments for today and tomorrow at Atticus have been cancelled due to my cold and losing my voice (never a good thing despite what some say). On Thursday this week the shop will be closed as we fit-out a project in Edinburgh. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. I will be back with the shop open, and my voice, on Friday and Saturday, and look forward to seeing you then. Thank you, Lynsay x

Has anyone been watching “A House Through Time” - series 6 on BBC 2? It tells the story of 20/22 Calton Hill, Edinburgh. Well, here we have an original oil painting of that house by local artist Joseph Maxwell-Stuart. A lovely slice of Edinburgh for someone to treasure.
