Katy's journey into dentistry began at just 16 years old. She later joined the Royal Navy, where she completed her hygienist training, and has spent her career helping patients build healthier smiles through education, prevention and personalised care.

National Su***de Prevention Month

September is National Su***de Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, encourage open conversations and remind people that support is available.

Su***de can affect anyone, and sometimes the people who are struggling may not show any obvious signs. A simple “How are you really doing?” could be the start of an important conversation.

You don't need to have all the answers. Listening without judgement, showing compassion and helping someone find support can make a real difference.

If you or someone you know is struggling, there is help available:

Samaritans – call 116 123, free, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Shout – text SHOUT to 85258 for free, confidential support by text, 24/7.
NHS 111 – call 111 and select the mental health option for urgent mental health support.

If someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent medical attention, call 999 or go to A&E.

⭐Happy International Youth Day!

Today we're thinking about the young people in our communities, and the habits that will set them up for a lifetime of healthy smiles.​

Here's what parents can do right now:​

🪥 Start brushing as soon as the first tooth appears, even baby teeth need care​
🧴 Use a fluoridated toothpaste containing at least 1000ppm, from when first teeth appear
🥤 Limit sugary drinks and snacks, including fruit juice​
😁 Make dental visits normal from early on, the less scary, the better​
🦷 Ask your dentist about fissure sealants and fluoride for older children
💦Encourage children to spit out the excess, and not to rinse with water afterwards
