Spotlight On Grasses.
Cut back or comb over?
If grasses do need pruning or tidying, do in spring so new foliage gets a chance to spring through and make a statement again in the autumn.
Deciduous Ornamental Grasses
As a general rule of thumb, deciduous grasses will benefit from being cut back in the early spring.
Cut older stems as low as possible.
Pull out any accumulated leaf litter
Evergreen Deciduous Grasses
As a rule of thumb, evergreen grasses do not need to be cut back
Comb through the foliage with a rake to remove spent leaves and collected leaf litter
Remove any collected leaves form around the base of the clump
Exception to the rule
Cortaderia is evergreen but does benefit from a hard prune in the spring

Spotlight on Carex
THE ornamental grass option for using in living walls, containers, pots and path edging.
A great range of Carex has just landed at the cash and carry with a range of pot sizes too.
Some Carex will take a lot more shade than other ornamental grasses making them an important plant choice for shady garden areas.
We throw a Spotlight On the EverColour range of Carex, popular for their low maintenance requirements and bright variegation.
Everest
A really popular choice with a striking leaf colour of dark green with a strong silvery white margin. The foliage is neat and arching creating shape and form that provides all year round interest.
Perfect for pots. Height and spread 30cm. Evergreen
Eversheen
Another popular choice for year round colour and interest with a bright lime green - yellow central stripe edged with dark green margins.
Perfect for pots. Height and spread 10 to 50cm. Evergreen
Everlime
For this Carex option from the ‘EverColour’ range the foliage variegation is reversed with a dark green central stripe edged with lime-yellow margins.
