Don't these look nice?! Very proud to have worked on this development for Erris Homes in Greetland. We have a long-standing relationship to this site, as detailed in the case study we have on our website https://farrarbamforth.co.uk/project/erris-homes-greetland/
We have a professional and personal interest in supporting people with SEND to live full and happy lives. We’re lucky that we are able to contribute to this in the work that we do in education and residential projects, but it’s also something that we actively engage with in the causes that we support as part of our desire to give something back.
See some examples here and read more on the website https://farrarbamforth.co.uk/giving-back/
We don’t just want buildings and spaces to work functionally, we want them to have a positive impact on those that use them. There are a number of ways that we try to do that and in our second ‘Giving Back’ post, we show you some examples of this.
You can see more about our approach to making a difference through our work and the causes we care about on the website https://farrarbamforth.co.uk/giving-back/
Giving back / social value / corporate social responsibility / doing reyt - these are all terms that really mean the same thing: making a positive impact on the causes that you believe in (we think the last one expresses it best!).
Businesses should be striving to make a difference and we certainly try to do that. Not only in terms of our business operations such as sustainable construction, enhancing the experience of users etc. But in terms of getting involved with the causes we care about and encouraging our team to do the same.
We’ve created some content on the website about how we strive to give something back and we’ve defined it under four main areas. Here, we show a few examples of how we aim to achieve sustainability in architecture. We’ll be sharing our other three over the next few weeks.

Landlords and developers with redundant space in buildings can showcase the opportunities they have for prospective tenants with a little creative imagination. We’re helping building owners show how space can be used for a variety of applications through photo-real CGI visuals.
For example, these visuals show how mill space in Huddersfield could make an amazing retail space, workplace, or health and well-being studio!

The built environment is all about making spaces work for those who use them and nowhere does this make more impact than in an education setting. This is something that we care deeply about and have worked on many schools, alternative provisions, and SEND settings.
We’re also proud to be collaborating with AccessHub to ensure that all schools have access to expertise and advice on a range of architecture and interior design related topics that can enhance learning, create positive experience, and become more inclusive and accessible.
Here are some of the projects we’ve worked on in this area.
It’s a standing joke that Tony knows people wherever he goes but he didn’t anticipate swapping stories with a contractor he was working with in Dorset (also called Tony) to find that he’d not only done a job in Wakefield 35 years ago but that it was Navigation Warehouse - the building that is now home to , the UK’s biggest bridal store that we did the interior design for last year! 🤯
Here are the two Tonys chatting about the building.

Good design is about making spaces work. We do a lot of work in the education sector where there are a number of challenges and both space and budgets can be limited.
Our interior designer, Sophie, has some brilliant ideas around creating calm space in classrooms that can be used for students who need some time out to regulate in a way that feels less formal than leaving the classroom environment. It can also be used as a staff resource.

It’s very rare to do both a commercial project and a domestic one for the same client but when a client that we’d worked with on a factory development approached us to create a bespoke home with an ambitious aesthetic and a challenging steep site, how could we refuse?…
