Findhorn Essences
Award-winning Findhorn Essences are made with love and care from Scottish flowers. Iona runs an Essence Therapy Clinic at Napiers The Herbalists in Edinburgh.
Marion Leigh created the Findhorn Flower Essences in 1992. Over her thirty years of practice, Marion began to create blends of her 49 solo Essences, forming the popular 24 combination essence range. Solos support and pin point particular emotions, whereas combinations address commonly shared life issues.

Dr Bach viewed health in a holistic way. He refused to view symptoms in isolation; instead, he looked at the whole person.
He came to understand the importance of emotional wellbeing to health, writing at length about the physical impacts of emotional imbalance.
He wrote extensively about addressing imbalances and connecting patients to their soul path. His writing is very much of its time and it can help interpret those words in modern contexts.
Where he talked of emotional imbalances and deviation from the divine path, we might think of the essences helping to create emotional safety – an internal sense of calm that allows the whole person to find a little more balance. Bach believed that this in itself would help the physical body to reset and return to health.
Emotional safety makes it possible to process emotions that lead perhaps to the whirr of returning thoughts or the sense of an unknown threat. Unaddressed these can become established patterns that affect wellbeing.
Flower essences are pattern breakers. They are also pattern restorers. In our Video Library, Julian Barnard always demonstrates how the plant from which the essence is created holds both the pattern we want to break and the pattern we want to restore.
The plants are visual guides to the feelings we have and the ones we want to cultivate. We simply have to look to see what we need.

THROAT 🔺Chakra
Deepening our connection with the throat chakra energy allows us to welcome in our spirit guides, higher wisdom and abilities to listen and understand. Using our intuition and insight, we can connect more deeply to our own creativity as a source of spiritual connection and soul purpose in action.
Our combination essence of Voice Confidence allows us to do this with conviction and presence, while Karma Clear helps us address the patterns that may hold us back or keep us blocked in this area.
Sending lots of love from Scotland,
From space of ancient mountains x

My mother, our founder Marion Leigh had a wonderful time meeting Julian and sharing their love and passion for flower and vibrational Essences. It is wonderful that the Healing Herbs team will continue the good work in memory of Julian. I love teaching Bach on our Advanced Diploma Part 3 course and always recommend Healing Herbs to my students when learning about Bach alongside the Findhorn Essences.
Julian Barnard
1947 - 2026
It is with great sadness and regret that we have to announce the death of Julian Barnard on Sunday, 13th September 2026.
Julian founded Healingherbs with the encouragement and support of Nickie Murray, following her departure from the Bach Centre.
Under her guidance he developed the education resource. This continued to be his mission throughout his life: to give free access to the work of Dr Edward Bach to the public at large.
He will be known to many of you as the warrior who enabled Bach Flowers to be recognised as a beneficial force for healing, and to others who made Bach flower essences according to the original direction of Dr Bach, and fought for them to be available worldwide.
He will be remembered across the world for the many teachings he gave, the books written and published in many languages and the recorded lectures freely available on the Healingherbs website.
For us at Healing Herbs he was both a close friend and colleague who supported the marginalised and misunderstood and will be sadly missed.
Love & Blessings ✨ Deep peace of the running wave to you 🌊

In memory of Julian Barnard
The BFVEA is deeply saddened to hear of the death of our Honorary Member Julian Barnard, on 13th September, 2026.
Julian was one of the defining figures in the modern history of flower and vibrational essences. As a teacher, writer, researcher and founder of Healing Herbs, he devoted much of his life to understanding, preserving and sharing the work of Dr Edward Bach. He wrote extensively, taught internationally and created an extraordinary body of knowledge that has guided and helped generations of practitioners and students around the world.
But Julian's contribution went beyond his knowledge of the remedies themselves. He was prepared to stand up for something he believed mattered: that the legacy of Dr Bach should not become the private property of a commercial organisation. His successful challenge to the exclusive trademarking of Bach's name – ultimately upheld at the highest level of the UK courts – was a landmark moment and its significance extended far beyond the naming of flower remedies.
At its heart was a much bigger question: who owns knowledge? What happens when ideas, traditions and discoveries that were given freely to the world become enclosed, controlled or claimed as private property? What belongs to an individual or organisation, and what belongs to the commons – to be shared, developed and carried forward by a wider community?
Julian's stand on Bach was therefore also a stand for something broader. It touched on ownership, copyright and intellectual property, but equally on the importance of the commons: the principle that some knowledge and cultural resources gain their value precisely because they remain accessible, shareable and available for others to build upon.
For those of us who work with flower and vibrational essences, Julian’s stance mattered enormously and its significance reaches far beyond the essence world. He showed real courage in challenging an established authority when he believed that something of wider value was at stake. And he continued throughout his life to make his own knowledge freely available, teaching, sharing and keeping the work accessible to all. Healing Herbs describes this was his lifelong mission: to give the public free access to the work of Dr Bach.
His book After Bach remains an important record of that period and of the questions it raised. Its value lies, not only in documenting a particular dispute, but inviting us to think about what happens when a living body of knowledge becomes subject to claims of ownership.
Julian was also a man who loved the plants themselves – their nature, their habitats and the subtle relationship between the living plant and the essence. His work helped many people to look at flower essences not simply as a system of remedies, but as a deeper relationship with plants and the natural world. The flower and vibrational essence community is immeasurably richer because Julian Barnard was part of it.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and to all those around the world who learned from him, worked with him and were inspired by his work.
Thank you, Julian, for standing up for what should remain freely available to us all – and for sharing so generously what you discovered along the way.
May his work continue to live through the many people he taught, the books he wrote, the plants he studied, and the essences that continue to be made and used around the world.
