MUSIC NEWS: Olivia Rodrigo has become the youngest artist in history to pass 31 billion streams on Spotify.

The milestone follows the release of her latest album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.

She is currently touring the record on her Unraveled Tour, which fans say has gone beyond expectations for its staging and production.

Supporters flooded X to celebrate, with one writing "unstoppable" and another calling it "record breaking stuff from Olivia."

A third pointed out that her earlier album Sour is the first in Spotify history to have seven songs each pass one billion streams.

One fan admitted they had been playing her track cigarette smoke on repeat, saying Rodrigo reminds them of artists from the 90s and 2000s who could "actually sing, write songs, and even play the piano and guitar."

Sad news last night that Scottish singer Lena Martell, the first solo Scottish female singer to top the UK singles chart, has died aged 86 following a short illness.

Born Helena Thomson in Glasgow, Martell began performing at just 11, singing with her older brother Allan’s Dixie band. As a teenager, she won the televised talent competition Find the Singer, leading to her first recording contract at 16.

Her career took her from Scotland to Broadway, where she worked alongside some of the biggest names in entertainment and understudied Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl.

Back in Britain, Martell became a familiar television personality, presenting her own BBC Saturday-night show from 1971 for around a decade.

Her greatest recording success came in 1979 with “One Day at a Time.” The song reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart and remained at the top for three weeks, becoming her signature song and a landmark moment for Scottish female artists.

Martell also enjoyed considerable album success, with six albums reaching the UK Albums Chart between 1974 and 1980, four of them reaching the Top 20.

Despite periods of personal and health difficulties, including cancer and major heart surgery, Martell continued performing and returned to the stage for audiences across Scotland and beyond.

Her death marks the passing of one of Scotland’s best-known popular singers, whose career spanned more than six decades.
