Parent’s Feedback – Will’s Journey at Able 🧡

Change can be difficult, especially for a young person who is leaving a school or college they have known for many years and taking that big step into adult services.

When Will joined Able, there were understandably lots of worries for wills parents. Would he cope with the busy environment? The noise? The number of people? Would he settle into a completely new routine?

Will has absolutely excelled. 🌟

Although the busy and lively environment was challenging for Will initially, with patience, understanding and the right support, he has overcome those barriers and now absolutely thrives in our drama, singing and dance sessions! 🎭🎶💃

He even attended our Able Summer Ball and stayed for over four hours, dancing, singing and enjoying the evening alongside his friends and the ABLE team.
What an incredible achievement! 🥰

Sarah and Wayne have also told us how grateful they are that Able remains open throughout holiday periods. After 25 years of having to plan holidays around term dates, they now have been provided with a level of flexibility and a peace of mind that they have never experienced before☀️

We are incredibly proud of Will and the progress he has made over the past year, and even more proud of the amazing relationships he has built with the team🧡

Here is what Will’s mum, Sarah, had to say:

💬 “Wayne and I are incredibly grateful for Able and the wonderful staff who support Will. He has been attending for a year now, and we are delighted by how much he enjoys his sessions.
There was a great deal of anxiety surrounding Will's transition from children's services to adult services. We were uncertain about what the future would hold and whether he would cope with the significant change from leaving college and beginning day provision. Looking back now, I needn't have worried.
I visited Able in early 2025, where Shaun and Simon took the time to show me around the centre and share their vision for its future. They were happy to discuss Will, his needs, and his aspirations. I left Able feeling lighter, reassured, and genuinely excited about Will's future. Most importantly, I felt a tremendous sense of relief and far less worried about what lay ahead.
I have to admit that when I first stepped into the centre, my immediate thought was, "Will isn't going to be able to cope with the busyness of the activities taking place in the hall - the music, the singing, and the number of people in the room." Initially, he did find it challenging, but the staff did everything they could to give him the time, space, and support he needed to adapt to an environment that was very different from the college setting he had been used to.
Now, there is no stopping Will. Kaitlyn has brought him out of his shell and encouraged him to participate in the fun and energetic sessions in the hall. She even helped him take part in the Christmas play and enjoy all the rehearsals leading up to it. Watching the performance, it was clear that Will and Kaitlyn share a special bond. She understands how to engage with him by following his lead, learning his unique quirks, and understanding what makes him tick. It was incredibly emotional to watch. Equally important, Kaitlyn recognises when Will needs space, calm, and time to regulate himself, and she knows exactly when to take him away from the wonderful chaos and into a quieter area.
As many parents and carers will understand, a smooth transition from home to day provision is essential to ensuring a positive day. Lisa and Connor have gone above and beyond to make sure Will is happy and comfortable when leaving home. They always ensure he has his favourite items with him, interact with him in ways that suit his needs, and maintain a consistent routine to minimise any distress. Once again, special bonds have been formed between Will and the staff who support him.
We recently attended the Able Summer Ball with Will, expecting to stay for perhaps an hour or so. Instead, we found ourselves there for more than four hours because Will was having such a wonderful time. He loved the interaction, attention, and encouragement from staff, who got him onto the dance floor to dance and sing alongside his friends. The Ball took place on a Saturday evening, and the staff generously gave up their own time to support our special young people and ensure everyone had an enjoyable evening. Able users, staff, parents, and carers all had a fantastic time.
On a personal note, for the first time in 25 years, Wayne and I no longer have to plan holidays around term dates because Able is accessible all year round. That has made a huge difference to our family and has provided us with a level of flexibility and peace of mind we have never experienced before.
Able has transformed what we once viewed with anxiety into a future filled with confidence, enjoyment, and opportunity for Will. We cannot thank the team enough for the care, commitment, and dedication you all show every day.”

Thank you, Sarah, for taking the time to share your experience with us. ❤️

And Will… we are so proud of you! 🌟💛

At Able, the health, safety and wellbeing of the people we support is always our top priority.

Achieving the highest possible food hygiene rating is a reflection of the high standards our team works hard to maintain every day.
