We’re excited to announce that we’ll be exhibiting at the Care Roadshow Epsom Downs on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at the iconic Epsom Downs Racecourse. 🏇

Yes — the home of the Derby will be swapping thoroughbreds for training packages, compliance chats and plenty of coffee-fuelled conversations for the day. ☕

If you’re a care home manager, clinical lead, training coordinator or provider looking to strengthen your workforce, sharpen compliance, or refresh mandatory training, come and say hello. We’ll be on hand to talk practical solutions, real-world challenges, and how to make training actually engaging (yes, it is possible).

Expect friendly faces, straight-talking advice, and no hard sell — just honest conversations about supporting your teams and raising standards across the sector. 🤝

Pop the date in your diary: Tuesday 13 October 2026. We’d love to see you there and talk all things workforce, quality and development.

See you at the starting line… minus the horses. 🐎

Delegated Clinical Tasks: Turning Guidance into Safe Practice

Last week, Ash our Director joined Paula Cashmore RGN from Achievable Care Quality Community for a one-hour online session exploring delegated clinical tasks and how they can be managed safely within health and social care services.

We discussed what constitutes a delegated clinical task, including examples such as insulin administration and tracheostomy care. These are significant responsibilities: safe delegation requires much more than simply showing someone how to complete a procedure.

During the session, we shared insights from our Clinical Oversight service and explored the systems we have established to support safe, accountable delegation to healthcare workers.

Our discussion covered the importance of:

- Assessing whether a task is suitable for delegation.

- Confirming the individual’s needs and associated risks.

- Providing task-specific training and competency assessment.

- Clearly defining professional accountability and responsibility.

- Ensuring appropriate supervision, monitoring and reassessment.

- Maintaining accurate records and responding when circumstances change.

- Giving workers the confidence to recognise their limitations and raise concerns.

Our approach is informed by authoritative guidance from organisations including Skills for Care, the Royal College of Nursing, NICE and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The key message from our conversation was clear: delegation is not a one-off training event. It is an ongoing clinical governance process that must protect the person receiving care, support the worker undertaking the task and provide assurance to the organisation responsible for the service.

Thank you to Paula for such a thoughtful and practical discussion.

Anyone interested in reading the transcript or listening to the recording is welcome to contact either Paula or ourselves.

A common question from councils and commissioners is whether insulin administration should only be done by district nurses.

In many social care settings, the answer depends on delegation, local policy, care planning and appropriate competency.

When personal assistants are trained and assessed properly, they can play an important role in supporting safe care and helping reduce pressure on district nursing teams.

Read our latest article to explore the practical questions, the role of competence, and how we have supported local councils with training and assessment.

Classroom learning and simulated training are important, but they are only part of a safe learning journey.

Clinical competency assessments help confirm that nurses, personal assistants and other staff can apply skills correctly in real situations.

For managers, councils and NHS commissioners, this brings reassurance that clinical safety is being supported in practice, not just documented on paper.

For learners, it can build confidence and clarity.

Ethical Workforce Solutions supports clinical competency assessment through our Registered Nurse assessors, helping organisations take a practical and person-centred approach.
