On Tuesday 15th September, Fort Vale had the pleasure of Bailey Collinge, Bailey James Racing, visit us to showcase his racing Kart.

The Fort Foundation is proud to sponsor Bailey and help him achieve his dreams. Bailey is 14 and has been interested in racing since he was 7. He started karting in 2019, however Covid sadly put a stop to any real progression or development.

In 2024, he competed in ex-Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo's DRS45 Championship, finishing 8th overall out of over 40 racers. In 2025, he stepped up significantly, going from what were effectively rental karts in DRS into Junior Rotax, some of the fastest, most powerful and responsive karts in the sport.

Bailey joined one of the biggest karting teams in the UK, Coles Racing, and entered the National Kart Cup, a national championship racing at some of the biggest karting circuits across the UK, just missing out on a top 20 championship finish.

Bailey will be competing in the Wera Tools British Kart Championship this year. Many consider the BKC to be the highest level of karting in the UK (some would say the world), with some of the best young drivers from around the world coming to the UK to compete, following in the footsteps of a number of current and former F1 drivers who have competed in the championship themselves!

Fort Vale wishes Bailey the best of luck and we hope to see him in F1 sometime soon!!!

Great to be back at Fort Vale today, a fantastic local business based in Simonstone, providing hundreds of high-quality jobs.

Fort Vale are world leaders in designing and manufacturing valves and fittings, with products exported as far as China and Australia.

I had a great chat with Managing Director Ian Wilson, who has been instrumental to the company’s success for nearly half a century.

We spoke about the importance of reducing energy prices to ensure British companies remain competitive.

Andy Burnham has spoken about how he plans to put reindustrialisation at the centre of his plan for Britain. In my role as part of the Reindustrialisation Research Group, I am pushing to ensure this becomes a reality, keeping high-quality, high-pay local jobs in areas like ours – no matter whether you have a degree or want to pursue an apprenticeship.

Thanks to Shaun Laycock, Managing Director Designate, for hosting me and showing me around.
