Gorgeous 18 month old Labrador ‘Juno’ was admitted last week for a laparoscopic spay with Vet Amelia. 😍
A laparoscopic bitch spay is a minimally invasive keyhole surgery that removes the ovaries only through three tiny cuts instead of one large open incision. A tiny camera (laparoscope) and special long instruments go inside the abdomen & the operating vet can see the organs clearly on a screen.
Key-hold surgery is reported to be less painful than traditional surgery with a lower risk of post-operative wound breakdown or infection & faster recovery & return to normal activity levels. Laparoscopic surgery is extremely useful for working dogs, large dogs and energetic dogs who are difficult to keep rested! ❤️🩹
Laparoscopic spaying is more expensive that a traditional surgery but pets on the Pet Health Club still benefit from the usual neutering discounts. For more information please speak to your vet

Best ferret friends, 6 month old ‘Slinky’ & 5 month old ‘Freya’ were admitted The Chapel Veterinary Surgery yesterday for surgery with Vet Tori & RVN Alice 😍
The breeding period for ferrets is between March and September & this long breeding season can cause serious problems for jills (female ferrets) who do not have the opportunity to mate as their high oestrogen levels can lead to a life threatening anaemia, Surgical neutering removes the risk of both this & of any cancers or infections of the reproductive organs.
There is now also the option of a slow release hormone implant as an alternative to surgery💉
We wish super sweet Slinky & Freya a speedy recovery ❤️🩹

We know everyone needs a good news story right now & we are delighted to be able to share the story of lucky 22 month old ‘Vinni’s’ amazing rescue 😻
Last week a builder came into our Station Road Vet Surgery Road saying they were clearing a drain locally and had found a cat down there. Our receptionist, Margaux, feared the worst & requested they bring it in to be scanned for a microchip, but the builder told her that it was very much alive and well!!
Vet Hamish gave him a thorough check up & Vinni was found to be fit and unhurt, albeit a bit thinner and very damp!
On scanning we discovered his owner is our clients & she had reported Vinni as missing over 2 weeks ago! When Margaux called his lovely owner she was overcome with emotion & she rushed in immediately to be reunited with her gorgeous boy. 🥰
We are thrilled that Vinni has made it safely home & would urge everyone to keep their pets microchip information up to date

Today our thoughts are with everyone facing challenges with their mental health & we urge all those struggling to seek help if needed from amazing organisations such as Mind & VetLife

😍 Lovely little 3 year old cross-breed ‘Teddy’ was a super brave boy today when he was admitted to be sedated to have a drain placed in his aural haematoma with Vet Emily.
An aural haematoma is a blood-filled swelling of the ear flap or pinna & they occur when small blood vessels burst and blood collects under the skin.
They usually happen when a dog keeps shaking their head or scratching their ear, often because of an ear infection, mites or an itchy skin condition. Less often, they can happen after an injury or knock to the ear, for example after rough play with another dog.
The drain should stay in place for 2-3 weeks & the following inflamed ears have been cleaned & treatment started. We wish Teddy a speedy recovery ❤️🩹
Aww, poor little miniature dachshund ‘Coco’ will hopefully be feeling much better now the sharp bone firmly stuck into her cheek has been removed by Vet Kate! ❤️🩹

Ouch - poor little miniature dachshund ‘Coco’ presented to Vet Andrew yesterday following a few days of mouth pain & notably eating on only one side of her mouth.
Coco was admitted for further investigation & following sedation Vet Kate was able to get a closer look at the back of her mouth where she found, and removed, a sharp bone that was penetrating into the soft tissues 😣
Following a thorough flushing of the area Coco was discharged with pain relief & antibiotics - we wish her a speedy recovery ❤️🩹
