Step back in time and discover one of Wales' most iconic attractions, just a short journey from Abergavenny. ⛏️

Big Pit National Coal Museum in Blaenavon offers a fascinating glimpse into Wales' rich industrial heritage. Descend 300 feet underground with a former miner as your guide, explore the historic pithead buildings, and uncover the stories of the people who shaped the nation's coal mining history.

Even better, from 18 July to 1 September, Underground Tours are completely FREE, making it the perfect summer day out for families, history lovers and curious explorers alike.

Nestled just outside Abergavenny, 1861 has earned this fantastic recognition thanks to its exceptional homegrown food, welcoming hospitality and beautifully appointed rooms. With 5 AA Silver Stars and 2 AA Rosettes, it's a destination that continues to showcase the very best of our region.

The AA praised the team's natural, hands-on hospitality, the outstanding comfort of the accommodation and, of course, the incredible dining experience that remains at the heart of 1861.

Congratulations to Simon, Kate and the entire team on this well-deserved achievement. Here's to many more visitors discovering everything that makes 1861 so special.

🍷 An evening of incredible food, wine and live music – all for a fantastic local cause.

Pugh's Garden Kitchen Abergavenny are hosting a special Laithwaites Wine Evening in support of Velindre Cancer Charity on Thursday 7th August at 7pm.

Guests will enjoy a carefully curated five-course menu, with each course expertly paired with wines from Laithwaites. Throughout the evening, Laithwaites' wine experts will guide guests through each pairing, sharing their knowledge and answering questions, while live music provides the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening.

The menu features everything from Baja fish tacos and lamb ragu arancini to pressed beef rib with Malbec, finishing with a selection of Welsh cheeses, each matched with exceptional wines.

At £75 per person, 100% of the profits will be donated directly to Velindre Cancer Charity, making this a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable evening while supporting an incredible cause.
