Fancy having a try at flyfishing? Or just want to brush up a bit on you casting and learn more about how things are done? Well this is the course for you! Great teach and great price guys, so if you fancy it just drop us a message or call to book your space. Also if you join the course for an extra £20 you can fish on catch and release until 6pm !

THE SHIFT BEGINS
Over the coming months The Shift will grow into a series of trail running events celebrating the mining heritage of South Wales with distances ranging from 1K for the younger ones right through to ultra marathons
But the heart of this series isn't about running further or faster
My main focus is introducing running to people who don't think they are runners
Whether you've never entered an event before are returning after years away or simply want to enjoy the trails with others The Shift is for you
The Little Shift

Every child who takes part will receive a bespoke wooden finisher's medal and a free ice cream from Caffi Cwtsh for all their hard work after putting in the shift

Information below on works at Gadlys Pit Car park for anyone who uses this car park to visit us! Don't forget we have a large free car park outside the Visitor Centre and another smaller car park just off Bwllfa Road near the top lake.

The Council is this week starting a scheme to undertake a series of riverbank repairs to prevent scour of the former coal tip near Gadlys Pit Car Park in , using Welsh Government funding.

The work will be focusing on a section of the Afon Dare located generally to the south of the car park, and the pictured building – to address damage caused by erosion.

The Council has appointed EDS as the contractor to deliver the scheme. Site setup works started last week (commencing July 20) and the main scheme will start in the week commencing Monday, July 27.

The contractor will be using a section of Gadlys Pit Car Park for its site compound – this section has been brought out of public use on a temporary basis. Pedestrian access will be maintained, including via the footbridge into the car park.

Residents may notice an increase in construction traffic accessing the site via Dare Villas during work hours, 8am to 5pm. Some noise disruption at times, from construction plant and machinery, is expected.

The scheme, which will be completed during autumn 2026, has received funding through Welsh Government’s Coal Tip Safety Grant. The Council has secured £13.7 million from this Grant to continue inspections, maintenance, and works across former coal tip sites in Rhondda Cynon Taf this year.
