River meditation - another work from my photography trip this summer in Oulanka, part of the Symbiosis series.

The Sanctuary

From a hike in 2023 in the beautifully barren Alta Canyon, Norway. The landscape has a very particular atmosphere. There are not many trees in this area, and this little grove, living there in the harsh wilderness, caught my attention.

As I spent time among the trees and created this work, I felt as if I were in a sanctuary.

This piece was exhibited as part of Ajan Havina Puissa / Whisper of Time in Trees/ at Galleria Alli in June.

Another one from the series -Symbiosis-, created during my hikes this summer. I made this piece near Vaasa, a place that holds a special place in my heart. It was here that I first set foot in Finland 18 years ago.

So much has happened since then, but I still remember one thing clearly: I knew I would never forget the magical sunset I witnessed that summer. For me, Vaasa has remained connected to my first experiences of the North: the nightless night, the sea, and that unique northern ambience.

And now, 18 years later, I returned, and a strikingly similar landscape and atmosphere awaited me.

I returned to the sea, to listen.

After a while, its spirit embraced my being

like silk, settling softly against my skin

and for a moment,
everything that separated us disappeared

This time, a monochrome series. Colour plays an important role in my work, so I rarely create in black and white. But for this series, monochrome brings out the forms and the spirit of the subject in a way colour couldn’t.

I created these photos in Kopparnäs during a short hike, when I felt I had to capture these trees, their presence and the dimensions they reveal.

(somewhere in the middle of nowhere, just a few hundred meters below the Arctic Circle)

- Close - On this hike, I came across these beautiful roots. Their quiet lines immediately caught my attention, so I stopped to photograph them.

There was something peaceful in their shapes, a sense of stillness, slow growth, and being deeply rooted.

They made me think about my own roots. Where are they?

Sometimes I feel like a rootless nomad, belonging to no single place. And yet, wherever I go, I find a sense of home in nature.

Perhaps that is where my roots are.

Nature is my home.
