This morning I was wandering through the sleepy village of Haria when I stopped to photograph the life-sized statue of the traditional basket maker - el cestero 🧺 A few minutes later I wandered up another street, glanced through an open garage door… and there he was … the man himself !! He invited me in, surrounded by baskets - las cestas - and proudly showed me photos of his work over the years and of the ceremony when his statue was unveiled He began his craft at 18 … and has just celebrated his 93rd birthday “They make us to last in Haria !” he told me This is the Spain I love - stories you find when you simply wander 🇪🇸 I’ll keep searching for them.. so FOLLOW for more 👉 #everydayspanish #spanishmadeeasy #reallifespanish #lanzarotelife #spanishculture

Spanish from my life in Spain 🇪🇸

Spanish is everywhere when you start looking for and practicing it ..🇪🇸 A little vocabulary from my birthday morning walk today - from my eco-yurt to the seafront .. and yes… I could really collect fresh eggs from the chickens for breakfast 🥚 🐓 How many of these words did you already know ? … just a little more spanish from my life in Spain 🇪🇸 #spanishmadesimple #spanishforbeginners #spanishtips #everydayspanish #spanishmadeeasy

More than learning the words … learn about the life behind them 👇🏻

There are some Spanish words that need more than translation. ROMERÍA is one of them Yesterday was my 6th time walking the Romería de los Dolores - for us, 16Km from Uga to Mancha Blanca …but people walk from all corners of the island to this small village .. dressed in traditional clothing. Yes, it’s a pilgrimage. But it’s also friendship, community, music, food, craftsmanship and generations keeping traditions alive. …and perhaps one of my favourite things about learning spanish. You’re not simply learning about what the words mean - you’re learning the life behind them. Could you see yourself walking a ROMERÍA ? #spanishtips #everydayspanish #spanishfrommylifeinspain #spanishtraditions #romeriadelosdolores

I 🫶🏻 Spanish traditions ..

I love how much of the past is still part of everyday life in Spain. 🇪🇸 Like the GERIA FESTIVAL 2026 that I visited today … the tradition of celebrating the grape harvest and paying homage to the Virgin of Charity Living in Spain isn’t just about learning the language. It’s learning the stories behind the things you see. La vendimia - the harvest Las uvas - the grapes Pisar - to stomp / tread Today we soaked up a little more tradition and some new vocabulary! 🇪🇸 #spanishmadeeasy #spanishfrommylifeinspain #learnspanish #lanzarote2026 #spanishforbeginners

Which would be your choice ?
Una Tarta o Un Crumble ?

Back in the UK and took a country walk .. and came home with half a kilo of memories ! The long hot summer has brought an early crop of wild blackberries, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I went blackberry picking. Living in Spain, I sometimes forget how clearly the seasons announce themselves here in the uk. … now, the important decision is tart or crumble 🤔 #spanishmadesimple #spanishmadeeasy #spanishfrommylifeinspain #summervibes☀️ #spanishlearning

🐝 “I’m as busy as a bee!”’ I lovely English expression…. But it’s not one Spaniards commonly use Instead you’re much more likely to hear: 🇪🇸 ¡ no paro ! ➡️ I haven’t stopped ! or 🇪🇸 Estoy muy ocupado/a ➡️ I’m very busy It’s one of the things I love about learning another language. Sometimes it’s not about translating the words … It’s about understanding how people naturally express the same idea.
