This photo series from the 19th century changed how people understood movement and how to capture it.

Eadweard Muybridge (1830–1904) was a British pioneer of photography whose work laid the foundations for both motion studies and film.

Meet Rihards’ parents, Rita and Uģis, the owners of the house at Amālijas Street 5a. Rita’s great-grandfather came to Riga more than 100 years ago. He bought a plot of land and built a house there.

From 2004 to 2008, Inta Ruka documented life at Amālijas iela 5a – just minutes from Riga city centre, yet existing as its own small universe.

Inta Ruka “Places Called Home” on view until 4 October 2026.

Through wordplay – from the self to the elf – Karl Ketamo transforms the elf into a symbol of the inner voice that interrupts growth, fuels self-doubt, and keeps us stuck in familiar patterns.

What begins as "Elf Sabotage" becomes an exploration of self-growth, self-abandonment, and the ongoing dialogue between the artist and his alter ego, Crybaby87.

"Emerging Artists: The Baltics & Finland" until 1.11.2026.

One day, Rihards sat on the windowsill of Amālijas Street 5a in Riga when photographer Inta asked to take his picture.

That marked the moment when Inta Ruka became part of the residents’ lives, a friend rather than an observer with a camera.

The series 'Amālijas Street 5a' consists primarily of portraits, but also captures small events and fleeting moments over four years. It is close, intimate, and deeply human.

Tom of Finland on loonud ikoonilisi homoerootilisi joonistusi enesekindlatest, lihaselistest meestest.
