The conditions were unusually calm — sunshine, almost flat water and only a light breeze for most of the race. Only towards the end did we finally get a taste of some downwind and slightly rougher water. 🌊☀️

Our start wasn’t perfect, and we lost some time getting through the initial chaos together with the eventual race winner. But once we found our rhythm, we started catching the teams ahead and worked our way into a strong second lead group.

For a while, it honestly felt like we might be the weakest link in our five-boat group — but we held on, stayed focused and kept ourselves in the game. 🔥

Up front were race winner Fred Kahu for a some time together with Oleg and Arūnas, who faced their own challenges after having to re-fix their steering cables twice during the race, but even reaching up high at the end. 🛠️💪

After the portage and the more technical sections, the group started to split. We kept moving steadily, held our pace and eventually found ourselves fighting for an even higher overall position than we saw in the beginning of the race. We crossed the finish line 4th overall. 🏁

Afterwards, we even practiced getting back onto the surfski while tired — because if you ever really need that skill, it will probably be when you’re already fatigued. 🌊🤘

And then: sauna, recovery and food. 🧖‍♀️🥘

A result we’re genuinely happy with — and another strong confirmation that we’re on the right path towards Alabama 650. 🇺🇸💪🚀
