Island Impact
Support agency for NGOs in Dominica: fundraising, project design, evaluation and more.
What do we do with things that frustrate us? We laugh at them. 🙃
Please enjoy our parody video - If Civil Society Consultations Were Honest. An idea from a good place that somehow doesn't give anyone involved what they really need.
Have you had meetings that feel a bit like this? What should we do about these? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Team update!
Yesterday we gave Christianna Paul, our Evaluations and Partnerships Manager, a good send-off as she is heading to Scotland to study for her Master's degree. 🥹🤩
Christianna spent more than 2 years with Island Impact, working directly with more than a dozen NGOs, co-designing and delivering the first NGO Accelerator Programme and hitting a whole series of professional development milestones. Now she has won the prestigious Chevening scholarship to do a Master's degree in Project Management and Innovation at Strathclyde University, Glasgow.
While Christianna will be sorely missed (😭), Island Impact and all its clients are incredibly proud of and excited for her. We're looking forward to seeing what she gets up to next!

When it comes to youth unemployment in hospitality, the problem isn’t just “poor customer service” or “not smiling enough.” Many young people already have the skills, but face limited opportunities, unfair workplaces, and a lack of trust between employers and employees.
The solution isn’t just “smiling more” — it’s about building trust, creating fair workplaces, and giving young people the practical training and internships they need to thrive. So, what can your NGO do to make this happen?

Thinking of running a youth-in-agriculture project? 🌱
Technical training is important, but it’s just the beginning. Young farmers also need start-up support, access to land, reliable markets, and guidance to get through the early, unprofitable months. Without follow-up, many projects fade fast.
Take a look at our latest findings and tips for running successful interventions!
Congratulations to our NGO Accelerator Participants for graduating as the first ever cohort! 🥳 The programme ended with a Networking Day involving local funders, and with some very promising partnerships.🚀Follow them to see what they do next: Breadfruit House Dominica Foundation Waitukubuli Artist Association You R Queen

...and just when you thought you’d seen all the 2024 recaps, here comes ours! 🎊
Just like everything we did in 2024, we’ve packed this reflection with honest insights like what worked, what didn’t, and how we’re leveling up. Our one-word descriptions for 2024 are: adaptive, intentional, relationship-based and making some bold pivots. What are yours?
Module 5 of the was a two-part dip into Digital Tools - for Communication and Finance. From creating content that truly connects to setting up financial systems that save time and stress, this module was about making NGO work smarter and more impactful. 📊
Session Highlights:
✅ Good accounting is much easier if you have intuitive online tools like Zoho books, Quickbooks or Zipbooks.
✅ Instead of trying to post all the time on all the social media platforms, choose your goals, audiences and channels with purpose.
✅ Break down tasks and delegate, no person was meant to be a whole communications department.
"Fundraising isn’t a quick fix—but it IS possible with the right strategies!" is a common theme we explored in Module 4 of the NGO Accelerator. In this module, we covered Fundraising Strategies:
From Institutional Grants to Crowdfunding, we explored six powerful strategies to help NGOs like yours grow and thrive. Our key takeaway? Fundraising is about effort, intention, and perspective.
Here’s how YOU can take action:
✅ Choose one or two strategies that work for your NGO.
✅ Map out your next steps with your team.
✅ Remember: put yourself in your donor's shoes and tailor your fundraising message to them.
