After teaching this class on Thursday I can honestly say it will change your life if you've been bad at setting boundaires in your life up to now.

I was the BIGGEST PEOPLE PLEASER on this planet, and in this masterclass I teach the exact framework I used to turn it around.

I still use this same method every day, because it's easy to default back to old patterns.

This keeps me grounded and aware of what I really want, and how to make sure I work towards that, standing up for myself without feeling guilty.

The replay is now available!! Get it via this link: https://gunilalifecoach.kit.com/products/boundaries-the-complete-framewor

Finishing touches as we speak!! đŸ’Ș

How quickly are you supposed to “fit in” when you start in a new clinic?

Yesterday we coached on this in The Thriving Vet Collective.

A member recently started a new job, and noticed she was really struggling with being bad at it.

Because, let’s face it, when you start at a new clinic you’re not the best vet-version of yourself you KNOW you can be.

You don’t know where anything is.

You might not have used their software before.

Their protocols are likely different from what you’re used to.

So you end up asking what seem like stupid questions (to you) a lot of the time.

And taking longer doing stuff simply because it’s not streamlined for you yet.

Nobody had said to her that she’s not good enough, but she was incredibly stressed IMAGINING what they were thinking about her.

And she was also upset she wasn’t living up to her own expectations.

The thing is, that intellectually she, you and me all understand it doesn’t make sense.

That of course you need an adaptation period, where you’re not the shiniest spoon in the drawer.

But
your nervous system might not agree!!

And nervous system overrides our brain every time the two don’t agree, because it’s ITS JOB.

Imagine you’re walking in the forest, and out of the corner of your eye you think you see a mountain lion in a branch over your head.

You can argue that there shouldn’t be mountain lions in that area, and while you argue, you’re disemboweled.

Our nervous system is built to make us survive, which means it kicks in and overrules our brain every time there is a threat to us, real or imagined.

So you jump 2 meters into the air, gasp and start running away from that thing in the tree before you even registered that it was just a domestic cat.

As vets, we have a strong feeling of responsibility, of not wanting to let others down, and often a real fear of being “found out” that we’re not as good as people thought we were.

This fear in reality belongs in our primitive brain that’s still super focused on not getting kicked out of the tribe, thereby losing our safety, shelter and community.

Because of that, you can’t reason with it.

The solution I taught this vet is to soothe the nervous system. Be aware of it being triggered, feel what’s going on inside, and process it.

You can’t argue with your nervous system. But you can learn to be aware of it, accept it and how to support it, so you can go from hyper anxious and stressed out to just a bit nervous and apprehensive as you would be going into any new situation.

I have two podcast episodes (83 and 86) on this on The Overwhelmed Vet Podcast, and it’s something we practice every week inside The Thriving Vet Collective.

There’s still one space left at founder’s price 19$/month and it’s a real steal if you were thinking about doing something about that stress, anxiety and self doubt of yours:

You can deal with this two ways: âŹ‡ïžâŹ‡ïžâŹ‡ïž

1ïžâƒŁ Find out what you’re thinking that makes you feel guilty, as

Thought >>> Feeling

Then challenge that thought: is it really true you’re a bad person if you don’t do this? Why? Why do you think it’s your responsibility? Is this a fact?

And you’ll start seeing a picture of your patterns, so you can interrupt them.

2ïžâƒŁ Address the guilt. Feel it, and process it. Realise that just because you feel it, it doesn’t mean you’re bad, or doing something wrong.

It’s just a feeling. And you don’t have to react to it.

Sometimes we feel guilty putting ourselves first, and that’s ok.

Would you rather feel guilty for 5 minutes (while you process it) or feel frustrated, tired and resentful for the 10 hours that extra shift you said yes to lasts?

What comes up for you reading this?

Setting boundaries is a skill, and now you can learn it in my masterclass “Boundaries: The complete framework for veterinarians”. Comment “boundary” and I’ll send you the link.

This was a comment from a member of The Thriving Vet Collective on yesterday’s post about setting boundaries and taking your lunch break.

If your first reaction was the same as this, I want you to really think about why YOU?

If you’re a woman and on top of that work in healthcare, changes are that you (like me) were conditioned from a very young age to take care of others, please others, be a “good girl”, feeling responsible for others wellbeing and feelings, and overall push your own needs aside for other’s.

This conditioning brought you safely through childhood, but as an adult it can become crippling because you burn out giving way too much of yourself, and you’re likely feeling resentment and frustration because others seem to not care so much.

Learning to set boundaries is not about you becoming a coldhearted b*tch that only cares about herself.

It’s about learning to have a healthy relationship WITH YOURSELF, so YOU are not at the bottom of your priorities.

Because, beautiful human being, no one else will@put you at the top if you don’t.

There’s a reason airlines ask you to put the oxygen mask on yourself before the children in your care.

If you keep putting it on yourself last, you’ll end up not being able to take care of anyone.

Come to my masterclass “Boundaries: The complete framework for veterinarians” tomorrow Thursday 8th October and learn this invaluable skill that will make such a difference to your veterinary (and non-veterinary!) life.
