500 years of music history – and our hotel right in the middle of it 🎶🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🎶

Nuremberg’s Meistersinger were craftsmen, poets and singers – the most famous among them was Hans Sachs. For centuries, their story unfolded just a few steps from what is now Hotel Drei Raben.

And even right here in our building: After the Meistersinger could no longer hold their singing competitions at nearby St. Martha’s Church, they moved their gatherings to an inn called “Zum Rindsfuß” – on the very spot where our lobby and bar are today.

So people were singing here centuries ago – a connection a historian discovered only recently, quite by chance, while researching Nuremberg’s historic stained glass – and apparently, 400–500 years ago, there was already plenty of drinking going on here too. 🍷

Centuries later, Richard Wagner made Hans Sachs and the Meistersinger world-famous with his opera “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.” To this day, it remains a cornerstone of the internationally renowned Bayreuth Festival.

And the story may soon take another remarkable turn: while Nuremberg’s opera house undergoes major renovations, the Staatstheater’s opera productions will move to a new venue at the Kongresshalle on the former N**i Party Rally Grounds.

That means Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” – an opera appropriated and celebrated by the N**is – could one day be performed on one of the most historically and politically charged sites in Germany. A remarkable new chapter in a story that began with Nuremberg’s Meistersinger almost 500 years ago.

And with Bayreuth just a short trip from Nuremberg, every year guests stay with us while visiting the Bayreuth Festival – combining Wagner in Bayreuth with the history of his Meistersinger right here in Nuremberg.
