Gotta love a good sweetlip. One of those species you won't find on Christmas Island but are a very welcome catch on Cocos. Here's Izaac with a beauty he caught using a small stickbait while fishing from a boat in the Cocos lagoon. Congratulations on your FOTW Izaac.

For a young Christmas Islander there's nothing as exciting as a family holiday on Cocos. Endless beaches with days of fun swimming, snorkelling, tropical island adventures and of course, fishing. Leeuwin recently scored the best time on Cocos and capped it off with this cracking bonefish which takes out this week's FOTW. Congratulations Leeuwin!

There's a real Cocos theme to FOTW over the next few weeks with visiting Christmas Islanders and Cocos locals getting amongst the fish. Zafeer used his skill casting stickbaits in the lagoon to land this fine GT. We're pretty sure this is Zafeer's first FOTW, congratulations!

This week we are excited to welcome Iyaaz to the FOTW team. It's so satisfying to see the joy on his face as he shows this cracking sweetlip he caught recently from the shore of DI. We have some great pics coming through from Cocos over the next few weeks, from Cocos locals and holidaying Christmas Islanders, so stay tuned. Tight lines everyone!

There's nothing that excites us more than a new species here on FOTW and this is a ripper! Fawwaz is a Cocos Islander who is fortunate to have access to fish like this stunning Maori Wrasse in the local lagoon. This really is a bucket list fish that Fawwaz has been able to tick off ridiculously early in his fishing journey, well done young man!

Welcome back to the best part of your Facebook week. We don't have Coral Trout here on Christmas Island but we are blessed with a healthy stock of Coronation Trout and we think they are a wonderful catch, especially when fishing from the shore. Here's Aditya with a fine specimen for this week's FOTW. Great job Aditya, we certainly love your work.

The shore based action continues but this week we're excited to head over to Cocos for our FOTW. It's great to see Zeeyad back and this time with a new species for us. We did a little fish ID search online and found out it's a Yellowfin Surgeonfish that Zeeyad caought from the Home Island jetty during school holidays. We don't know much about this species so we'd love it if any of our followers could help us out. Information such as the local name (ikan aoa?), is it a targeted species or by catch, is it good to eat? Please comment if you can, it would be appreciated, thanks everyone.

The shore based action continues this week as our young anglers show their dedication to fishing. While strong trade winds have made boating tough and often unrewarding, it hasn't stopped our youngsters doing what they do best. Just like Finlay, who cracks yet another FOTW with this fine peacock cod taken from the shore on CI. Our shoreline is a tricky place to fish so be sure to take care, tell someone where you are going, what time you'll be home and always fish with a friend. And besides all that, if you fish alone who'll take that picture of your FOTW 😊

George is always keen to get out on the boat with his Dad. Nothing like some good old bottom bashing, dropping baits down to see what you can find. Black trevally are one of the staples for jiggers and bait fishers alike and are always welcomed aboard, especially when they come with a side order of yummy cod. That's a Great Catch George!

The trade winds are cranking so fishing from a boat is a little less appealing, but that doesn't stop our intrepid young anglers from doing their thing. We've seen some great shore based captures which we'll being posting up over the next few weeks, just like Tawhiri with this Coronation Trout for yet another FOTW.
