Heartland Mutual Insurance
In Ontario & Nova Scotia, offering Auto, Home, Farm, Commercial insurance solutions tailored for you. Heartland Farm Mutual Inc.
formed in January 2016 from the merger of North Waterloo Farmers Mutual and Oxford Mutual. These two parent companies bring together a combined total of more than 250 years of experience serving rural Ontarioβs insurance needs. OXFORD MUTUAL INSURANCE was formed as a result of an amalgamation of two farm mutual insurers in 1973. The roots of these two companies dated back to 1878 and were based in the rural Ontario communities of Oxford, Middlesex, Elgin and Perth Counties. Originally, policies were written focusing exclusively on fire insurance but over the years, the needs of the policyholder/owners changed substantially. Broader and different coverage was requested. Oxford Mutual continued to meet those needs with the assistance of the mutually owned Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan Inc., and their mutual insurance trade association, Ontario Mutual Insurance Association. In 2015, following an approval vote by their mutual policy holders, Oxford Mutual merged with North Waterloo Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. NORTH WATERLOO FARMERS MUTUAL was established on June 9, 1874 when a number of farmers from the 3 northern townships of Waterloo, Ontario held a public meeting to form an independent farm mutual. The Company issued 200 policies in its first year and eventually expanded its operations into other counties. The philosophy of meeting the needs of the policyholders, understanding exposures and limiting potential for loss through prevention, had proven to be a simple and effective growth strategy. The directors, being farmers themselves, personally applied their knowledge and experience whenever possible. By 2014 North Waterloo Farmers Mutual Insurance Company was one of the largest insurers of farm property in Ontario, offering a variety of innovative insurance products with a continued emphasis on loss prevention. In 2015, following an approval vote by their mutual policy holders, North Waterloo Farmers Mutual Insurance Company merged with Oxford Mutual

Canada is experiencing record heat waves this month.
Dog owners know how much their furry friends might love a car ride. But when you leave them in a hot car, even for a few minutes, not only are you risking a broken window from a rescue attempt, you're also putting your precious pet's life at risk.
Enjoy your summer with your pet, and always make sure you keep them cool, safe, and healthy!
Let's take a moment today to appreciate this beautiful country we get to live in. We honour the land, the indigenous peoples, and the responsibility we all share in caring for our environment and our communities.

THIS SUNDAY IS NATIONAL INSURANCE AWARENESS DAY
Promoted annually in Canada on June 28, its purpose is to remind individuals and businesses to review their policies and ensure they have coverage that's appropriate to their situation, and to be aware of what they are actually covered for.
It's highly encouraged for you to touch base with your agent or broker to review any policies you hold, changes that may impact you, and learn if there are other opportunities for you to take advantage of, such as new coverages or bundling offers. Here are a few areas you may want to look more specifically at with your insurance representative:
NATURAL DISASTERS π©οΈ
Extreme weather events are on the rise. Ask about coverages above the standard home insurance that you should consider adding.
LIFE CHANGES ποΈπ
Have you recently renovated? Started a new business? Maybe you've made a major purchase. It's time to make sure the coverage limits you have are up to date with your circumstances.
CHANGES TO INSURANCE ποΈ
What regional changes have been introduced that could impact your coverage? For example, auto insurance in Ontario is changing on July 1, 2026, to introduce optional accident benefits that were previously mandatory. Your broker or agent can walk you through how these changes apply to your situation.
FRAUD PREVENTION π©
Fraud tactics are constantly evolving and getting trickier to spot. FamilIarize yourself with tips on how you can protect yourself by knowing what red flags to watch for.

FACT CHECK FRIDAY! βΉοΈ
Today we reveal... is Friday the 13th truly unlucky? The answer may surprise you.
The answer is FALSE. There is mixed data on whether claims incidents increase on Friday the 13th. Research shows some people use more caution, which may offset any increase, but it's actually LESS likely to be a factor in accidents than something like Daylight Savings Time, when the daylight hours are changing and people may be suffering fatigue from the time change.
π THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
We've got another True or False....
It is always a good idea to increase your deductible so you can pay lower premiums. I mean, what's the likelihood you'll actually have a claim anyway, right?
Share your answer π and don't forget to check back for next week's question!
