Today we pause to remember the children who were taken from their families, the children who never made it home, and the Survivors who continue to carry the experiences and impacts of residential schools.

Today is about more than wearing orange. It is about listening, learning, remembering, and acknowledging the truth of what happened — and understanding that the impacts continue to be felt by Indigenous families and communities today.

We honour the Survivors, their families, and the generations who continue to carry these stories. We remember the children whose lives were taken from them and those who never returned home.

May we continue to listen to Indigenous voices, learn the true history, honour the strength and resilience of Indigenous Peoples, and do our part to move forward with understanding, respect and meaningful action.

I know I’m a little late getting this posted since school started back up Tuesday, but this is a reminder that deserves to be said — because our kids’ safety should always be something we all take seriously. ❤️

As we settle back into the school routine, let’s also get back into the habit of slowing down and paying extra attention in our school zones, playground areas, and around crosswalks. 🚸

Kids don’t always think like adults. They can be distracted, excited to see a friend, in a hurry to get home, or simply not paying attention the way we wish they would. That means we, as drivers, need to be the extra set of eyes.

Please slow down in school and playground zones. Take the extra second to scan those crosswalks. Watch for students walking or biking home, and don’t assume that because you don’t immediately see a child, the area is clear.

A few extra seconds of caution is worth it every single time.

We all live in this community. These are our kids, our neighbours, our families, and our friends. Let’s look out for one another and make sure everyone makes it home safely. ❤️

Please slow down, put the distractions away, look twice, and stay alert. School is back — and so is our responsibility to keep our kids safe. 🚌📚🚸

Instructing is so much more than a job. It’s the little moments, the connections, the growth, and knowing that maybe in some small way, you’ve helped someone feel supported, encouraged, or believe in themselves.

I truly have the sweetest students, and moments like this remind me exactly why I love what I do so much. 🥹🌸
