EXCESSIVE SPEEDING IN THE MD OF Taber

Over the past three weeks, Taber Police Service Community Standards Officers have encountered several instances of excessive speeding in the Municipal District of Taber.

As shown in the attached photos, officers have stopped vehicles travelling:

• 140 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone
• 154 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone
• 121 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone

Today, October 6, 2026, a white GMC Yukon was stopped travelling 119 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Township Road 100 near Range Road 182. Unfortunately, this is the second time the same Yukon has been stopped for excessive speeding in the same area.

The Taber Police Service reminds all motorists to slow down, obey posted speed limits and drive according to road and weather conditions.

Speed limits are in place for a reason. Excessive speed puts everyone on the road at greater risk. Please slow down and arrive safely.

Taber Police Service / Taber 911 Successfully Transition to Next Generation 9-1-1

Taber Police Service/Taber 911 is proud to announce that after years of hard work, there has been a successful transition to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911), a major step forward in ensuring our community continues to receive reliable, modern emergency communications services.

While residents will still dial 9-1-1 the same way they always have, the technology working behind the scenes has received a significant upgrade. NG911 replaces aging infrastructure with a more secure, resilient, and future-ready system designed to better support emergency responders when every second counts.

As NG911 capabilities continue to expand, the new platform will support improved location accuracy, enhanced information sharing, and eventually the ability for Real-Time Text (RTT), and to receive photos, videos, and other important information from callers during emergencies.

The transition also ensures compliance with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) requirement that all Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) across Canada migrate to NG911 before legacy 9-1-1 networks are retired on March 31, 2027.

“This is an important milestone for our organization and our community,” said Dana Bell, Public Safety Communications Manager. “The successful transition to NG911 helps to provide residents with the dependable service they expect when they call for help.”

“I am proud of the work of Dana Bell and her team, along with the tremendous efforts of the Town of Taber’s IT personnel, in bringing this multi-year project to completion. This initiative represents a significant investment in public service, and we are pleased to bring this enhanced level of service to residents of both the Town of Taber and the Municipal District of Taber.” (Chief Graham Abela)

For the public, nothing changes when calling 9-1-1. What has changed is the technology supporting those calls, helping ensure that Taber Police Service and Taber 911 are ready to serve the community today and well into the future.

Our community relies on 9-1-1 during some of life's most challenging moments, and we're proud to have taken this important step to ensure emergency services remain strong, reliable, and ready when they're needed most.

Successful deer rescue!

Not every call involves arrests, investigations, or traffic stops!

On September 29, 2026, at approximately 7:50 am, Taber Police Service responded to a report of a deer trapped between two fences in the Prairie Gold area. Senior Constable Evanson and Constable MacDougall attended and quickly developed a plan to safely free the deer.

With a hood placed over the deer’s head and a catch pole secured, the officers, with assistance from the homeowner, carefully freed the deer’s back legs and gently lifted the deer over the fences.

Once the hood and pole were removed, the deer bounced away to freedom!!

This incident is a great reminder that policing involves responding to a wide variety of calls for service. Our members are always prepared to assist our community, whatever the call may be.

***UPDATE****
The owners of the copper wire have been identified!

Attention MD of Taber Irrigation Owners

On September 25, 2026, during an arrest, the Taber Police Service recovered more than 100 pounds of copper wire believed to have been stolen from an irrigation system. To date, we have been unable to identify the rightful owner of the wire within the Town of Taber.

We are asking MD of Taber residents with irrigation systems to inspect their equipment for any recent signs of damage, including cut or missing wiring.

If you discover that your irrigation system may have been targeted, please contact your local police of jurisdiction and advise them of this post. The recovered wire contains markings that may assist in identifying the rightful owner.

Thank you for your assistance as we work to identify the source of this property and investigate this theft.

BICYCLE & VEHICLE COLLISION

On September 23, 2026, at approximately 8:27 a.m., Taber Police Service School Resource Officer Constable Chris Nguyen came upon a collision involving a bicycle and a pickup truck in the 5500 block of 47 Street. The collision was witnessed by numerous students and teachers at a nearby school.

The investigation determined that the pickup truck was travelling northbound on 47 Street at a speed below the posted 30 km/h playground zone limit due to traffic and pedestrians. As the pickup continued northbound, an 8-year-old youth riding a bicycle entered the crosswalk and was struck by the vehicle. The youth was wearing a helmet.

The youth was transported to Taber Hospital with undetermined injuries.

No charges are pending in relation to this collision.

A reminder for cyclists: Cyclists are required to follow the rules of the road. When riding a bicycle through a crosswalk, you are considered a cyclist, not a pedestrian. To be considered a pedestrian, you must dismount and walk your bicycle across the crosswalk.

Please slow down, stay alert, and make sure you are visible to motorists and pedestrians.
