Home based business featuring traditional hooked mats, & wall hangings, as well as patterns & other rug hooking supplies.

I learned to hook watching my mother in 1979 but really became hooked after attending class at the Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia’s annual school in 1993. I have been a member of that Guild and have attended several schools since then. I am a founding member and past president of the Rug Hooking Guild of Newfoundland and Labrador. I love to teach beginner workshops and also to teach hooking with hosiery in the Grenfell tradition. I teach regularly in Newfoundland and have also taught in Nova Scotia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Through my home-based business, I design and sell patterns as well as hook commissioned works. My rugs have been exhibited at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec as well as various other exhibits across the province. I have also received awards from the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador for the Preservation of a Traditional Craft and for Technical Skill.

Rug School 2026 is over and it was truly a great weekend. The Terra Nova Resort is an ideal venue for a fall school. Although I didn’t teach or take a class this year, I enjoyed my time in the On Your Own area. I finished hooking, whipping and binding the pitcher plant with rope border design and got a start on my piece for the upcoming travelling exhibit (no pictures yet). Thank you to Christina Oates and her committee! Great job and looking forward to next year.

A beautiful example of the inch mat pattern which was popular around the province and in the Maritimes. There are various versions and names for this design. A few have been registered by RHGNL.

Our Witless Bay Heritage Committee remembers quite fondly a very talented , lovely lady Loretta Ryan who sadly passed away one year ago today.
Loretta was a very active , valuable member of our Rug Hooking Group. She showed up one night with a pattern of a rug “The Boston Pavement” and suggested it would be a great group project and it was. So many participated in this project , spending many an enjoyable evening sitting around the frame , hooking and making a wonderful use of time, creating this beautiful Rug.

Yah! It's off to RHGNL Rug School at Terra Nova Resort! Hard to believe it's 30 years since we held the first annual Rug School in Gander in 1996. Really looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Safe travels to all who are attending.

Lots of Christmas coasters and ornaments sent off to the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador this morning. These will be available for purchase soon in their Craft Shop on Water Street in St. John’s.

What a lovely day just spent in Corner Brook teaching Grenfell Style Hooking. To top it off Susan Morris graciously brought in her three original Grenfell mats for the class to see. What treasures she has there! By the way if anyone in the class went home with an extra Joan Moshimer hook, I am missing mine.
