October is Small Business Month.

Recently, a past client (and still wonderful connection!) wrote these words to me:
“Something which always shines through from you, both in person and online through your business - your genuine love for local, and your passion for helping small businesses grow and thrive. It’s really special ♥️♥️♥️”

If I wasn’t living in a tiny remote community, I’m pretty sure I would have a shop filled with wares by all the small businesses I adore and know. People would come there because they know every piece they’d touch, I’d go “oh let me tell you about…” with so much enthusiasm, that thing would no longer be a necklace or mug or dishcloth to them. It would be the story of the people and place who made it. I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t come into the store for fear that that’s the kind of service they would get 😂

I love my people. The small business owners, what they are crafting and creating and dreaming. I’ll move mountains to support those who I care about.

And I hope I’m inspiring you to do the same! Here’s how I’m committing to supporting small businesses in October, maybe you can do some of these too:
💚 showing up at their events
💚 spending money at small, independent businesses
💚 telling the world about them, even if I wasn’t able to buy: sharing in my stories, sending texts, tagging in comments
💚 writing an honest Google review (I’m going to try and commit to sitting down and writing 5 a week this month!)
💚 sending them a personal message, so they remember how awesome they are

I’m going to spread some love with tags of businesses that I love to support and others I’m really hoping to support soon. I’d love if you did the same so we can all check each other out and build the bonds in our small biz communities 🤍🤍

Happy 40th birthday, Calum!! 🥳🎊

Salt Leaf wouldn’t be here without Calum’s support. At 2.5 months postpartum, with 2 kids under 2 years of age, I threw out the “crazy” idea of ‘let’s start a social media management business!’ Although concerned how I’d take it if it wasn’t instantly successful (it wasn’t. And I didn’t take it well 🤣), Calum has always been 100% supportive and the reason why I’ve been able to turn Salt Leaf into the wonderful growing business it is today.

At numerous business events, I unfortunately hear women speak of how they don’t feel supported at home and how they need to carry everything from the business, to meal planning, to school runs, and more. I feel very fortunate and like I’ve found a unicorn in a partner - both in home life and in our business.

Happy birthday to my unicorn husband and business partner!

And for those looking for a supportive unicorn for your Google advertising needs, this guy is available. Post-40th celebrations, that is.

I’m always on a mission to surround myself with the best people - for support, advice, camaraderie, a listening ear, shopping advice, to celebrate the wins and lift us up in the losses.

There are a couple communities I’ve found for either women in business or marketers that I’ve loved and held onto. I’m so glad I said yes to joining and sharing my energy with really great souls and people pushing themselves and being badass in business.

This is officially a cry for help, but a fun one.

I’m hiring a Junior Social Media Manager, someone based in Canada with a genuine eye for design and a love of making content that doesn’t look like it was slapped together in Word (no offense to Word).

You’d start out supporting me directly on a couple of our current client accounts, learning how we work, with real room to grow from there as you show me what you’ve got.

You’d be joining a small team that values good ideas over titles, kindness in feedback, and getting excellent work done without running ourselves into the ground to do it.

Not everything you see on social media is an effective marketing strategy.

I’ve built my business around a few principles I won’t compromise on, whether I’m working on my own brand or someone else’s.

Trends are fleeting, algorithms change.
Good brands don’t.
