Our artisan goat milk soap and herbal products are handcrafted and made fresh in small batches. Yo

Inspired by science, nature, and magic Apothecandy creates beautiful, useful things for your body. Leiah Bauer is the herbalist and goat-whisperer behind Apothecandy, she combines her passion for plants and love of the forest with rich and creamy milk from her own herd of goats to create her line of forest inspired goat milk soap. The amazing colours and scents are created from natural materials to capture a moment in the seasons, from the smell of the early spring when the sun warms the buds on the balsam poplar and the golden resin begins to flow to the fading sunlight of the fall when the goldenrod and fireweed blooms. Apothecandy follows the seasons and ethically wildcrafts the botanicals that capture the story of the forest in her soap creating an aesthetic and aromas that are carefully crafted to transport the user to a memory or feeling. Our Products:
Many of our herbs are grown naturally or ethically wild-crafted here on our property or locally sourced. Great care and time is spent growing, harvesting, drying, infusing and creating our products. Our herbal products are handcrafted and made fresh in small batches. About the Herbalist:
I am a gardener, a maker, a do-er, a cook, a hot mess, and a herbalist. I began seriously studying herbs in 2012, completing a diploma program at Dominion Herbal College and then going on to complete an intensive 2.5 year Herbal Immersion program through Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine . Location:
My husband and I, our three daughters, and some dairy goats live on a little piece of heaven in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. We acknowledge that we are in Treaty 1 territory and in the traditional territory of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the MΓ©tis Nation. The landscape is rugged boreal forests and still displaying evidence of once being at the bottom of ancient lake Agassiz. My favourite time of year here is in the spring when the world begins to come alive with sounds and smells. Every time I step outside I breathe deeply, taking in the damp, musky, earthy herbal scent. My Inspiration:
Science, magic, and nature, forests, life, good food, love, and my children.

Autumn is nigh!
Here is where to find me in the next month.
(or a reasonable facsimile of me)

Yes there are two markets in two provinces on the same weekend!
I haven't cracked the code on cloning myself yet, but holy moly would that come in handy.
What I have done is enlisted the help of my friends and family that live in Regina.
Because it takes a village and a whole lot of logistics.
So while I am at my usual week 2 haunt at Scattered Seeds in Winnipeg my best gal Mel and my sister in law Kelsey will be holding court at the Queen City Fibre Festival in Regina.

These wont be the last chances to see me this season. My Winter schedule will include all the dates in November and December. All those details will be released closer to those dates.

Are you interested in craft, in agriculture, in community, in how things are made, in the environment, in where your clothes come from, in niche hobbies?
WELL BOY HOWDY DO I HAVE A FESTIVAL FOR YOU.

Manitoba Fibre Fest
Red River Exhibition Park
Sept 11 & 12

Part market, part educational, part museum, part ted talk, ALL FUN.
Come see sheep shearing demos, meet the fibre animals, watch historical Viking knitting, learn how linen is made from flax, shop from incredible farmers and artisans, take a workshop on indigo dying, basket-weaving, Victorian hair art, buy a drop spindle, buy an entire fleece, buy some wool wash from me to wash and block your new knit!

I don't get this excited about many events but I am over the moon about this one and I will shout it from the rooftops.
Now get out there and knit, knit, knit!

A huge shout out to my goat stewards!

This is the first year I launched a community supported agriculture program called the Goat Stewardship Program and I am excited to have two fantastic folks jump enthusiastically on board to sponsor a couple of the goats here on the farm for the year!

Donna scooped up the chance to support Nyx, one of my cashmere producing bottle babies and the sweetest little black void of a goat.

And Ashleigh took on our special 3 legged resident Meera, a resilient creature with a big story for such a small goat.

Their support helps to provide ongoing vet care, quality feed, and fund infrastructure projects. You can learn more about this program on my website by following the link in my profile.

SUMMER.
This year it felt like it was Winter right up until Summer hit you in the face with a wall of unrelenting heat, hitting record highs across the prairies just in time for my first big multi-day outdoor festival event, the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

If you are newer around here I make seasonal inspired goat milk soap and self care rituals that tell the story of the natural world around me using as many home grown and foraged ingredients as possible to create dreamy designs and intoxicating aromas.

For the season change this year I worked on the Elements collection again, trying to capture the essence of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.

This collection launched to my email subscribers in my last newsletter and debuted in person at Folk Fest last weekend to an emphatic success!
Maybe it was the extra hot weather, but the Air Element bar really resonated with everyone, it might have been my fastest seasonal sell-out yet, even my display bar didn't come home from Folk Fest with me.

The 3 remaining elements are available on my website where you can read the story behind them and all about the natural elements incorporated into each bar. They will be coming with me to the Cooks Creek Medieval Festival July 24-26 (which I am VERY excited to attend), follow your nose to the festive white and yellow striped tent to find me and check them out!

If you haven't smelled a pine tar soap before I ask you to take a journey with me. Envision yourself sitting near an ancient wooden structure in a dark forest, the smell of a burned out campfire lingers in your clothes, the embers stirring with each whisper of wind through the trees, tendrils awakening primordial memories. It is dark, smoky, musky, astringent, evergreen, campfire realness.

Live your Viking longhouse fantasies with this soap.

Have you romanticized the Moon lately?

Each bar of soap begins with a nourishing blend of butters, oils, and creamy goat milk. The design is carefully crafted using activated charcoal to provide a clarifying gentle exfoliation and create delicate swirls and craters. Scented with a balanced blend of lavender, ho wood, and cedarwood oils (and a little bit of magic).

Every full moon is one of a kind, trace your fingertips over the unique shadows, craters and valleys over the moons surface, an effect that can only be captured through small handcrafted batches.
