Hey there! I'm Kayralee, and I'm dedicated to supporting aging loved ones. Powassan ON & area

Compassion, dedication and most importantly my Long-Term Care experience, have led me here to begin my journey of a Private Practice, in the lovely community of Powassan, Ontario. My heart's desire is to meet the social and emotional needs of the elderly who remain at home, who are facing the undeniable challenges of their aging years. My mission is to provide relief support to families who experience burn out from primarily taking care of their aging loved ones. Providing assistance in the home with tasks of daily living, I also encourage and facilitate community based outings to increase independence, as well as confidence, with the proper support. Therapeutic Recreation services consider social, emotional, physical, and intellectual domains to create a care plan that aims to improve the client's quality of life. In my scope of practice, I assess the individual's needs and interests, then provide the one-on-one support needed to reduce barriers like isolation, and achieve personal goals where possible.

*In order to meet the suitable criteria for this support service, all individuals must be fully mobile, with the exception of a cane as an assistive device, and are able to toilet and bath themselves with minimal prompting.*

❇️Perks of Private❇️

“I feel bad asking you to do this, I’m not sure you’re allowed to?”

🙋This has been a common remark with clients/families who also have other community supports included in their circle of care. Understandably so, agencies send help for specific tasks and have to stay within the regulations and guidelines for liability purposes.

🚫 Private support does NOT mean compromising professional boundaries, but it DOES mean there is a level of communication with the client and family that allows for flexible services, and adaptability to needs and preferences.

☑️ If the request is out of my scope, I am quick to refer to the appropriate person/business for the job.

🫶A lot of my clients benefit from a multi-purpose wellness visit. This sometimes looks like helping facilitate staying on track with adequate meal preparation, following physio exercise programs that might otherwise fall at the wayside, vacuuming living-space, getting groceries, or getting out and weeding that garden together that’s long overdue.

🌻If you’re new here, Park Therapeutic encompasses non-medical, aging at home support, through Therapeutic Recreation and Homemaking services. This means that as an eldercare professional, I provide the motivation, consistency and means to help clients stick to goals and rhythms that contribute towards wellness while aging at home, wherever that might be.

➡️If you’ve been with me for some time, you’ll know that I highly encourage taking advantage of funded services for aging needs when they are granted. There are no hard feelings. I realize that my time with some families is temporary when needs are high, but I always say this is the nature of my job. That being said, I’ve loved being with long term clients and seeing them through transitions of needs and I am here for it where I can be 🤍

Winter is long. But it’s coming to an end ☀️🤩
What have we been up to? We’ve been keeping busy with functional fitness, word games, puzzles, bingo, and art! Queue the guitar instrumentals in the background 🎶

After spending just about a year together, I had the unique privilege this past week to advocate for my good friend Doris and help her move into a Long Term Care home. Behind her vibrant smile, she held some uncertainty on what this all meant for her going forward. Deep down however, she knew this was probably the best thing for her at this point in her life 🤍

Doris called me up one day looking for support with getting out for errands. Supporting someone with no family nearby was a first for me, which definitely presented some challenges at times. Doris would probably agree that I was always ready to make lemonade out of those lemons, even on the days she may not have wanted to. 😁

Powassan won’t be the same without our Doris, but here’s to the next chapter- where there’s an endless supply of new books to be read! 📚

God, bless you!
