MOODY DOESN’T MEAN DARK
We leaned into rich walnut, a charcoal-stained oak island and aged brass balanced all that depth with a warm Luna Wood Hemlock ceiling, natural stoned island top and organic quartz surfacing intentionality layered light, so the room still feels bright, open and easy to live in.
HERE’S WHAR MAKES IT WORK:
NATURAL MATERIALS: Walnut cabinetry, a natural stone island top and a full-height backsplash. These materials get better with age instead of going out of style.
ORGANIC TEXTURES: A fluted island end, bouclé stools and veining you want to run your hand across. Texture adds warmth that colour alone can't.
INTENTIONAL LIGHTING: Linear LEDs set into the ceiling, sculptural bronze pendants over the island, and task lighting where you actually prep. Every layer has a job.
NO COMPROMISES ON FUNCTION: A workstation sink, integrated appliances, a built-in coffee station, induction cooking and hardware that's built to be used every day.
Trends will come and go. A kitchen designed around real materials, good light and how you actually cook will outlast all of them.
That's what we call a timeless kitchen at

PANTRY REAL TALK
This is the room that makes the whole kitchen work.
The butler’s pantry at The Sidney is here to do a job. Prep, storage, coffee, the dishes that haven’t made it to the dishwasher yet. Close the door and it’s gone.
That’s how we design every space: function first. Figure out how you live, then make it look good. Never the other way around.
LAYERED LIGHTING: Ceiling, shelves, under-cabinet and a sconce over the sink. Each layer has a job, so there are no shadows and no squinting.
MIXED TEXTURES FOR A REASON: Wood lowers take the abuse, light uppers keep it bright, the tile wipes clean, and the wood ceiling stops it from feeling like a utility room.
OVERALL INTEGRATION: It’s built in and out of the way, leaving the counter free for real work.
Come Thanksgiving, this is mission control as the turkey rests, the sides get staged, the pots get hidden, and the main kitchen stays clear for people.

THE FALL BLUES ARE REAL.
My friends you home can either fight them or feed them.
Every October we hear the same thing from clients: "I'm just tired." Shorter days, grey skies, and suddenly the house feels heavy. That's not in your head.
Your body runs on light. When daylight drops, your sleep, mood, and energy all take the hit.
Here's what the industry won't say: most homes are designed to look good in photos, not to support the people living in them through the seasons. This principal bedroom was designed the other way around.
NATURAL LIGHT FIRST: Big openings to the covered patio pull in as much daylight as possible. Morning light tells your body it's time to wake up. Full-height drapery lets you control it, not block it.
THE CORRECT LIGHT, AT THE IDEAL TIME: Light temperature and intensity matter as much as quantity. Warm, low, layered light in the evening (like that bedside sconce at around 2700K) tells your body to wind down. Harsh, cool overheads at 9pm do the opposite.
INDOOR + OUTDOOR, WORKING TOGETHER: The bedroom opens straight onto the patio and the water. Stepping outside for ten minutes of fresh air and daylight, even on a grey day, does more for you than another coffee.
ORGANIC TEXTURES YOU CAN FEEL: Organic millwork, hardwood floors, natural stone flagstone underfoot, grasscloth walls, linen and natural fibres. These aren't just pretty finishes. Natural materials ground us, soften the space, and keep a room from feeling cold when the weather turns.
Good design isn't about trends. It's about building homes that help real families actually thrive, all year long.
If your home feels like it's working against you this season, let's talk. - Jamie B.

WHAT A NIGHT AT THE SPARK GALA
Which raised over $750K for the Chinese Canadian Museum Chinese Canadian Museum, and we were proud to be in the room.
Thank you to our pals at Terris & Company General Contractors for the invite. We had a blast, and we’re glad to be championing this foundation and the impact it has across Canada.
A big thank you to Grace Wong, the museum’s board chair, who has led the museum since it began in 2020. Her leadership is a big reason any of this exists.
A few fun facts worth knowing about the museum:
* It opened on July 1, 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Exclusion Act. It’s Canada’s only museum dedicated to Chinese Canadian history and culture.
* The Wing Sang Building was built in 1889, and “Wing Sang” means “Everlasting.” It’s the oldest building in Vancouver’s Chinatown.
* In its first year alone, it had over 28,000 visitors and more than 500 guided tours.
* It won Best Museum or Gallery Space at the 2025 Canadian Venue Awards.
Golf. Craft b**r. Tarot cards. Obviously. ⛳🃏
The BANFIELD DESIGN CO crew descended on the Twin Lions Contracting Movember Golf Tournament and we did NOT come to play… okay we came to play. Just not golf.
We set up shop on the course, poured local craft b**r with the Mariner Brewing team, handed out sunnies, and let the tarot cards do the talking. Trophy in your future? Major glow-up season ahead? The cards had opinions.
Our team brought the full A-game (as per usual) and honestly? Best Friday we’ve had in a while.
But real talk… Movember is a cause worth showing up for, and Twin Lions does it with so much heart every single year. 💛
Thank you to the whole Twin Lions crew, every golfer, every sponsor, every generous human who came out.
Same time next year. We’re bringing the cards.

WHAT A DAY… spent with old + new friends!
The BANFIELD DESIGN CO team had the absolute privilege of being part of the Twin Lions Contracting annual Movember Golf Tournament and honestly, what a way to spend a sunny Friday.
We set up shop on the course alongside our new friends at Mariner Brewing, pouring local craft b**r tastings and because why not… Ella on our ID team offering a little tarot card wisdom to every golfer passing through. Trophy bound? Life-changing season ahead? The cards had opinions.
Sunnies were handed out, laughs were shared, and our design team soaked up every minute of it. Always a proud moment reflecting on how our team commits and brings the A game…
But beyond the sunshine and good vibes, this day was really about something that matters. Movember is a cause worth showing up for and the Twin Lions team does it right, every single year.
Thank you to the entire Twin Lions Contracting crew for having us and for championing this event with so much heart. And thank you to every golfer, sponsor, and supporter who came out and gave generously.
Same time next year? We’ll bring the cards.
