Many people worry that a gap on their resume is the first thing employers will notice. What we see every day is that life happens!

People take time away from work to raise children, care for family members, pursue education, recover from illness, relocate, and more!

A career gap doesn't erase your skills, experience, or potential. The key is understanding how to tell your story with confidence.

Employers are often more interested in what you've learned, how you've grown, and what you can contribute today than a gap on a timeline.

Your journey may not look exactly like someone else's and that's okay.

Let us help you build confidence to tell your story – connect with us today!

Following up after a job application shows initiative and it can genuinely help you stand out in a crowded hiring process.

- Don’t assume no response means no interest; most of the time, it just means things are still moving on the employer’s side. Give it about 5–10 business days before reaching out so your message feels timely, not rushed.

- When you do follow up, keep it short, polite, and professional. No need to over-explain or overthink it. A simple check-in goes a long way.

- Most importantly, use the opportunity to reconfirm your interest in the role and remind them why you were excited about the position in the first place. A well-timed, thoughtful follow-up can keep you top of mind and reinforce that you’re proactive and genuinely interested.

Your experiences, your strengths, and your potential all matter and they deserve to be seen.

Too often, job seekers face obstacles that have nothing to do with their ability to succeed. Disability, justice involvement, or gaps in employment can make the path to work harder than it should be. But those barriers do not define your future.

RISE & SHINE by Career Edge is here to help change that.

We support job seekers to build confidence, identify strengths, develop skills, and connect with opportunities where they can truly thrive.

Because everyone deserves the chance to contribute, grow, and belong in the workplace.

✨ Your opportunity to shine is just beginning. Connect with us today!

In Ontario, 28% of adults aged 15 and older identify as having a disability (*Statistics Canada’s Canadian Survey on Disability).

That's more than one in four Ontarians.

Many people with disabilities have valuable skills, experience, and a desire to work. Yet barriers, both visible and invisible, can still make it harder to find and keep meaningful employment.

Imagine the impact if more workplaces focused on ability instead of assumptions?

At Career Edge, we use RISE & SHINE to guide how we work with job seekers and employers. It's our strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to helping people recognize potential, reduce barriers, and create more inclusive, fair chance workplaces.

Because when we remove barriers, we don't just create opportunities for individuals, we strengthen our communities and our economy.

If you are curious about inclusive hiring, connect with us today to learn how we can help!

If you only prepare one interview question, make it “Tell us about yourself.” It’s almost always the first question and it sets the tone for everything that follows.

Have a strong base answer ready that briefly covers who you are, your relevant experience, and what you’re looking for next. Keep it clear, confident, and focused on why you’re a good fit for the role. A solid response here can instantly make a great first impression and help guide the rest of the interview in your favour!
