Sapphire history facts you didn't know about:
1. Ancient Persians had a sapphire-blue explanation for the sky. A traditional belief held that the Earth rested on a giant sapphire and its reflection coloured the heavens blue.
2. Sapphires were associated with royalty long before modern engagement rings. Historically, the stone became associated with sincerity, loyalty, and faithfulness, qualities that helped make it a meaningful choice for engagement jewelry.
3. Princess Diana helped create one of history’s most recognizable sapphire rings. Her 1981 engagement ring featured a 12-carat oval Ceylon sapphire surrounded by diamonds. It was later given to Catherine, Princess of Wales, by Prince William.
