The tip of Chip’s fishing rod suddenly dove toward the water, catching him completely off guard as he sat lost in a daydream. He sprang to his feet and pulled back on the rod with all his might. 🫨

It quickly became apparent that he had greatly overestimated the size of his catch. The tiny fish came flying out of the river, and Chip took two quick steps backward, only to trip over the oar! With his paws wildly flailing, he flipped right over the side of the boat (rod, fish and all)… and into the water. 🎣🌊🐿️

He landed with a tremendous splash…💦 in water that was barely up to his knees. 🫩

The series of events happened so quickly there was nothing Squirrel could do but chuckle at the sight of his friend sitting flat on his tail in the shallow water. 🤭

In true Chip fashion however, he simply hopped back into the boat, shook himself off, and cast his line back into the water, while saying to no one in particular, “That one wasn’t a keeper.” 😒

The story would long be remembered in Oakwood Forest simply as:
“Chip caught a fish… then the river caught a Chip!” 🎣🐿️💦💦🐟💦

Chip yawned. 🥱
He felt sleepy yet today he felt content that his burrow renovation was progressing well…and was clearly in good hands with the Mole brothers. 🚧🦺🪏

Earlier in the day he had helped Squirrel in the garden….they pulled weeds and picked a basket full of vegetables that they turned into a delicious soup for their dinner. 🍅🥘🌽

Chip missed his burrow — but for now he was warm and comfortable and very thankful to be spending time with Squirrel… his very best friend in the whole forest. 🐿️✨

Chip stopped by his burrow today to check on the progress the Mole brothers were making on the renovations. As he wandered through the tunnels, he carefully inspected each new room, occasionally pulling out his tape measure and mumbling to himself as he checked the dimensions. 📐🦺🪜🐿️

At last, he looked around and gave a quiet nod, satisfied that everything was slowly coming together. There was still plenty of work ahead before the burrow would truly be ready, but it was finally beginning to feel like home.🏡

“For now, I’ll still have to stay at Squirrel’s house,” he thought, rubbing his brow. “I just hope I don’t wear out my welcome.” 😥

If he was being honest with himself, though, he wasn’t in too much of a hurry to leave. Squirrel was after all his very best friend and (as always) had been the most wonderful host. Somehow, his home always had the tastiest treats, the fluffiest blankets, the warmest fireplace, and the very best company a chipmunk could ever ask for. 🐿️🤎🐿️
