This is how many masks I have sewn, sold, donated and gifted. (not including my own kids and husband ) This isn’t to brag. But this it to quantify how a little side project to raise money for a toddler/preschooler play group exploded into something wild. I was expecting to sew 50 at most.
It was a great learning experience and there were many take aways I can build on. But right now I’m going to take a little break. This local Mom is also a full time post secondary student. The sewing machine is going in for a much needed service.
Thank you to , from The Water Valley Artisan Market for showcasing my masks and everyone who supported me.
Who knows? Maybe once I get my inspiration back I’ll start sewing again.

Spent the last couple weeks fulfilling orders from other provinces as mask mandates were newly implemented.
As much as this pandemic has created this little side hustle for myself, I am pretty Covid-out.

Decided to sew something other than masks. The Japanese Knot Bag. Perfect for just carrying whatever.

Three layered homemade masks? Already doing it😀
Every one of my masks have always been three layers. The middle layer being a non-woven sew-in piece of polyester called Interfacing. It adds structure to sewing projects and it’s a filter type/mesh material (as suggested by Dr. Tam). It adds an extra barrier.
There are different types of interfacing. Sew-in and Fusible are two. Fusible sticks into the fabric when it is heated by an iron. There is glue that is activated. I DO NOT use fusible interfacing for masks. You don’t want to be breathing in glue!
So if you ever wondered what all went into sewing of your masks, this is the breakdown.
