Johnny Gillis of North East Mabou, came up with the name 'Red Shoe' as a tribute to Cape Breton fiddler Dan R. After doing some research, former owner Rob Willson realized just how much Dan R. had contributed to the music and culture and decided it would be an appropriate name for the pub. Live Music Hours:

🍂 ONE LAST SUNDAY AT THE SHOE! 🎶
THE FINAL DAY OF OUR SEASON!

As always, we close with Shelly Campbell & Allan Dewar! Our Colour Days countdown has brought us to one final Sunday Matinée, and we couldn’t ask for a better way to send off a great season. ❤️

Born and raised on West Bay Road, Inverness County, Shelly has spent decades playing traditional Cape Breton fiddle music. Her playing carries the strength, rhythm and grace of the traditions she grew up with, bringing the tunes to life at dances and concerts.

From a musical family in Ohio, Nova Scotia, Allan began playing traditional music at an early age. His piano accompaniment and Shelly’s fiddle bring that familiar Cape Breton sound to our final afternoon together in Mabou.

What a season it’s been! To our musicians, our hardworking staff, our neighbours and everyone who travelled to spend time with us, thank you. You’ve filled the Shoe with laughter, friendship and memories we’ll carry into the winter.

Come for one last meal, one more catch up and the final tunes of the season. Let’s give the Shoe a Sunday sendoff together!

🍂 ONE LAST SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE SHOE! 🎶
TWO MORE DAYS TO MAKE MEMORIES!

Our closing weekend continues with Dara Smith & Amanda MacDougall joining us for Saturday night at Red Shoe Colour Days! From the first tunes of the season to these final October evenings, it’s the musicians and all of you who have made this such a great season. ❤️

Born and raised in Antigonish with family roots in Inverness, Dara has been playing fiddle for more than 30 years. Now living in Port Hawkesbury, she brings a lively traditional style to dances, ceilidhs and festivals at home and beyond. Her musical travels include performing at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland.

From Judique, Amanda grew up surrounded by Cape Breton music and dance. She began step dancing at four and took up piano a few years later. Through performing alongside Cape Breton’s traditional musicians and teaching, she has shared those traditions with audiences and learners alike.

This Saturday, Dara and Amanda bring fiddle and piano to the heart of Mabou for our final Saturday evening of the season. Gather your friends, come for supper and enjoy another night of Colour Days at the Shoe!

🍂 ONE LAST FRIDAY AT THE SHOE! 🎶
THREE MORE DAYS TO MAKE MEMORIES!

Our final Friday of the season brings Howie MacDonald & Beverly MacLean back to the Red Shoe for another evening of Colour Days! What a season you’ve given us, with familiar faces, new friends and so many nights of music and good company. ❤️

From Westmount, Howie is a fiddler and pianist whose career includes years of touring and recording with the Rankin Family. His talents also extend to comedy, with appearances in Cape Breton musical revues bringing laughter alongside the tunes.

From Southside Boularderie, Beverly is a fiddler and piano accompanist whose love of music grew through her family. Influenced by Jennifer Roland, Allie Bennett and Stephanie Wills, she has performed at dances, ceilidhs and pubs, in productions at the Louisbourg Playhouse and as far away as Denmark.
