Join coach Chelsea Norman, one of BC and Alberta’s most successful and prolific athletes out of Rossland Martial arts (and Invy BJJ alumni), for a Jiu Jitsu & women’s self defense seminar focusing on escaping bad positions (pins) and turning the tables. GET ON TOP, STAY ON TOP!
Link in bio or head to the store at INVYBJJ.CA
SATURDAY October 24 10am-1pm
Chelsea represents the current competitive scene in western Canada and has been training since 2014 when her Muay Thai coach convinced her to try grappling. She was hooked and especially loves the ever evolving puzzle that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu offers and requires that learning never stops!
Chelsea’s journey has taken her all around B.C. and beyond. She has trained in Wales, Iceland and New Zealand to name a few locations. It’s the cool people that Chelsea has met along the way that has keeps her stoked about the sport.
This seminar will be a great introduction and first step toward grappling & self defense fluency. It will also be valuable for experienced grapplers to learn Chelsea’s strategies and techniques:
Escaping pins
reversing negative position
Staying on top
The triangle choke from the bottom, top and as a escape or sweeping strategy
A conceptual framework that make the practice sticky!
Context of grappling in a holistic self defense system
Confidence building games with at your own pace scaled intensity
a guaranteed FUN session of body movement & empowerment
Begin to master the basics with Chelsea just for this 1\2 day workshop or make it a step toward a broader practice. Women’s only training every Friday 5:30-6:30pm and other WORKSHOPS through out the year.
No experience necessary, work out cloths, a water bottle & a willingness to play are all you need, we will take care of the rest!

Here’s the plan for Turkey Day! If you are in town, come join us for a roll…it looks like a rainy weekend. If you haven’t checked us out before, you might be surprised how game these turkeys are lol!
As usual, dojo stormers are welcome to come try rip off a leg too lolz (not really) good peeps only club.
Idk, come play games. We know a thing or two about jiu jitsu & how to build skill. We aren’t technique collectors and definitely understand that the conditions in practice should represent the conditions of performance. PLOT TWIST: it’s so FUN too!
Just sayin’
We are a small town casual gym but we do our best to understand our sport, stay up to date on technical and strategic information while we dive deeply into coaching pedagogy & collaborate with the BJJ coaching community AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. All this to support our member’s goals-as grand or small, serious or lighthearted as they may be! Come join the rolls!
In short, we are serious about the sport but not serious about ourselves. Come join the rolls!

Join coach Andrea Parnell, coach and athlete at Cranbrook BJJ, for a no pressure introduction to Jiu Jitsu focused self defense!
SATURDAY August 22 10am-1pm
Andrea has been training for 11 years and coaching for 6. Her favorite aspect of coaching is sharing her love for Jiu Jitsu with the next generation. This session will cover the self defense aspects of jiu-jitsu:
Fundamentals of the “leverage over strength” Jiu Jitsu strategy for grappling
Managing distance using connections and frames
How to safely fall
Escaping common pins and restraints
Introduction to practical submissions for larger & stronger opponents
Confidence building games with at your own pace scaled intensity and level of contact

No experience necessary, work out cloths, a water bottle & a willingness to play are all you need, we will take care of the rest!

On behalf of the District of Invermere and Council, I want to sincerely thank everyone who worked so hard throughout the power outage this past weekend to support our community.
Our Fire Department and Public Works teams were incredible and I want to thank them. While some of our firefighters were away supporting the Ta Ta Creek wildfire response, our volunteer firefighters stepped up here at home to make sure Invermere remained covered and responded to calls that came in during the outage. Their commitment to protecting our community both here at home and in neighbouring communities is something we can all be proud of.
Thank you to our Public Works team, whose dedication and hard work helped keep our community running during the outage. Working around the clock, they maintained essential water and wastewater services, managed garbage collection, cleared fallen trees and addressed many other needs as they arose. Their efforts made a significant impact.
Thank you to the BC Hydro crews who worked to restore power, the Regional District of East Kootenay for supporting communications, regional and provincial partners, emergency responders, volunteers and everyone who stepped up to help a neighbour, support a local business to or lend a hand in any way.
Most importantly, thank you to the people of Invermere for your patience and with your willingness to look out for one another. Once again, you showed what makes this community so special.
This past weekend’s power outage was a reminder that significant weather events are happening more often and we need to continue to be prepared to support one another when they do.
One of the biggest lessons from this weekend is how important reliable communications are. Continuing to invest in communications infrastructure is a priority that has been raised by both our staff and residents and this experience reinforced just how essential it is for keeping our community connected during an emergency.
We know events like this will continue to happen and we will continue working to make sure Invermere is ready with the resources, infrastructure and the people needed to keep our community safe and connected.
On behalf of the District of Invermere, thank you to everyone who helped keep our community safe and running this weekend.
