đĄ IT support doesnât always happen in an office!
A little behind-the-scenes look at one of the more interesting environments we get to work in at Ginga Technology Solutions.
This week, we were out supporting GO FM and BIG FM at one of their remote broadcast tower sites. Instead of desks, conference rooms and office Wi-Fi, this particular job brought us inside the tower-site equipment shelters at the base of the radio tower, where much of the critical broadcast, networking and communications infrastructure lives.
Our clientsâ technology can be almost anywhere, from professional offices and medical clinics, to manufacturing facilities, remote buildings, outdoor wireless links and radio tower sites.
That means our job isnât simply managing computers. We design, troubleshoot and support the networks, connectivity and infrastructure that keep businesses operating, wherever that infrastructure happens to be.
And sometimes, apparently, that means Nick gets to disappear with Mathieu Manning into a shipping container beside a radio tower for the day. đđ»
Thanks to the team at GO FM / BIG FM for trusting Ginga Tech with your technology and for the shout-out. Weâre always happy to get out of the office and into the field!
We manage IT so you donât have to.

đš Does your business actually OWN the hardware it paid for?
Or do you only own it⊠as long as you keep paying the vendor every month or every year? đ€
Ubiquiti has started using a pretty memorable term for this:
HaaS: Hostage as a Service. đŹ
And frankly, Ginga Technology Solutions is hopping on this conversation.
Thereâs absolutely nothing wrong with paying monthly for a service that provides ongoing value.

IT support
â
Cybersecurity monitoring
â
Cloud services
â
Backups
â
Managed maintenance
â
Hardware replacement programs
But paying a recurring licence just for the privilege of continuing to use hardware your business already purchased?
Thatâs where we have a problem.
Think about the equipment your business relies on every single day:
đ¶ Your network and Wi-Fi
đ· Your security cameras
âïž Your phone system
đȘ Your access control system
đ» Your computers and other devices
With some vendors, that hardware is deeply tied to mandatory recurring licensing.
Platforms such as Verkada, for example, require active licensing for their ecosystem to operate as designed. Certain Cisco Meraki licensing models can go even further, once licensing expires and the applicable grace period ends, network equipment can become non-operational.
Now imagine this conversation:
âYour company bought the firewall, switches and Wi-Fi access points⊠but the licence expired, so your network isnât passing traffic.â
Or:
âYes, you purchased the cameras⊠but you need to renew the subscription to continue using the system properly.â
đł
That doesnât feel much like ownership.
At Ginga Tech, we deliberately favour hardware platforms where the core equipment you purchase continues to be yours and continues doing its job, without a mandatory annual fee simply to keep the hardware alive.
Itâs one of the reasons weâve invested so heavily in platforms like Ubiquiti UniFi for networking, Wi-Fi, surveillance, access control and communications.
We believe your IT provider should earn your business through service, support, security and value, not because replacing your hardware ecosystem would be painfully expensive.
đ Your infrastructure should protect your business, not hold it hostage.
Not sure whether your current IT, camera, phone or networking equipment has mandatory recurring licensing?
Send us a message. Weâd be happy to review what you have and explain exactly what youâre paying for.

đšđŠ If your data is stored in Canada, does that mean itâs actually under Canadian control?
Not necessarily.
As businesses move more of their operations into Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, cloud applications and AI platforms, where your data is stored is only part of the story.
Digital sovereignty also means understanding:
đ Who can access your data
đ Which countriesâ laws could apply
đ€ What happens when AI systems access business information
âïž How dependent you are on a cloud provider
đŸ Whether you have truly independent backups
đš How you would recover or migrate if a critical service became unavailable
This is becoming an increasingly important conversation for Canadian businesses, especially organizations handling sensitive, regulated or confidential information.
Weâve published a new Ginga Technology Solutions advisory explaining data residency vs. data sovereignty, what it means for cloud and AI, and some practical steps Canadian organizations can take today.

đ€ Could AI be advancing faster than our ability to safely control it?
Researchers inside some of the worldâs leading AI companies are raising increasingly serious concerns about AI safety, including one Anthropic researcher who recently left the company over those concerns.
The headlines sound futuristic, but thereâs a very real cybersecurity issue for businesses today.
As AI agents gain access to email, Microsoft 365, company data, APIs and even IT infrastructure, how we secure AI matters more than ever.
We took a closer look at whatâs actually happening, whatâs speculation, and what Canadian businesses should be doing now.

Frontier AI safety is becoming a business cybersecurity issue | GingaTech Warnings from frontier-AI researchers are intensifying, but the immediate business lesson is practical: AI agents need identity, access, monitoring, containment, and human oversight just like other privileged systems.
â ïž **Security & Privacy Advisory: Is your Smart TV really just a TV?**
Recent cybersecurity research into LG Smart TVs has raised some very legitimate privacy and security concerns.
Researchers observed certain LG Smart TVs scanning local networks and identifying other connected devices. Separate security research also demonstrated vulnerabilities that could potentially allow a compromised television to capture audio, including while appearing to be in standby.
That matters a lot more in a business than it does in your living room.
For healthcare providers, legal offices, financial organizations, and any business handling confidential or regulated information, a Smart TV should be treated as what it really is:
**A network-connected computer with microphones, software, applications and access to your network.**
This does **not** mean every LG TV is secretly recording everything around it, and we donât believe in fearmongering. It does mean businesses should be taking IoT and Smart TV security seriously.
At GingaTech, we recommend that Smart TVs and other IoT devices be properly isolated from business-critical systems, rather than connected directly to the same network as computers, servers, EMRs, client files and other sensitive systems.
Weâve published a full advisory explaining what was discovered, what LG has confirmed and disputed, and what businesses should consider doing about it.
