It’s definitely feeling like fall out there today and that little crescent moon still hanging around just makes it that much more magical in Hammonds Plains this morning 🍂🎃

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Today we remember the children who were taken from their families and communities, who never returned home as well as the survivors, families and communities that continue to live with the impacts of the residential school system. We wear orange as a visible reminder of those children and as a symbol of our commitment to remembering that every child matters 🧡

Reconciliation begins with a willingness to understand and understanding requires us to listen, learn, remember and reflect. Each of these words carries a responsibility of its own.

To listen means making space for Indigenous voices. Take the time to hear survivors and communities when they tell us about their experiences.

To learn means being willing to understand the history of residential schools, the policies and systems that caused harm and the ways their effects continue across generations.

To remember means refusing to let these stories be forgotten. It means honouring the children who never came home, the survivors who continue to carry and share their experiences and the families and communities whose lives were changed forever.

To reflect means considering what we have learned, where we are today and what responsibility we each have in building relationships grounded in respect, understanding and truth.

And most importantly, to reconcile means recognizing that remembering is just the beginning. Reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility. One that asks each of us to carry what we learn into our actions, our relationships and the way we move forward together.

Today, and every day that follows, we remember. We listen. We learn. We reflect. And we continue the work of reconciliation 🧡🧡

From all of us at Hammonds Plains Entertainment, we recognize this important day with respect and remembrance. Wela'liek
